Relative asymptotic equivalence of dynamic equations on time scales

This paper aims to study the relative equivalence of the solutions of the following dynamic equations $y^{\Delta }(t)=A(t)y(t)$ y Δ ( t ) = A ( t ) y ( t ) and $x^{\Delta }(t)=A(t)x(t)+f(t,x(t))$ x Δ ( t ) = A ( t ) x ( t ) + f ( t , x ( t ) ) in the sense that if $y(t)$ y ( t ) is a given solution of the unperturbed system, we provide sufficient conditions to prove that there exists a family of solutions $x(t)$ x ( t ) for the perturbed system such that $\Vert y(t)-x(t) \Vert =o( \Vert y(t) \Vert )$ ∥ y ( t ) − x ( t ) ∥ = o ( ∥ y ( t ) ∥ ) , as $t\rightarrow \infty $ t → ∞ , and conversely, given a solution $x(t)$ x ( t ) of the perturbed system, we give sufficient conditions for the existence of a family of solutions $y(t)$ y ( t ) for the unperturbed system, and such that $\Vert y(t)-x(t) \Vert =o( \Vert x(t) \Vert )$ ∥ y ( t ) − x ( t ) ∥ = o ( ∥ x ( t ) ∥ ) , as $t\rightarrow \infty $ t → ∞ ; and in doing so, we have to extend Rodrigues inequality, the Lyapunov exponents, and the polynomial exponential trichotomy on time scales.

Existence of physical measures in some excitation–inhibition networks*

In this paper we present a rigorous analysis of a class of coupled dynamical systems in which two distinct types of components, one excitatory and the other inhibitory, interact with one another. These network models are finite in size but can be arbitrarily large. They are inspired by real biological networks, and possess features that are idealizations of those in biological systems. Individual components of the network are represented by simple, much studied dynamical systems. Complex dynamical patterns on the network level emerge as a result of the coupling among its constituent subsystems. Appealing to existing techniques in (nonuniform) hyperbolic theory, we study their Lyapunov exponents and entropy, and prove that large time network dynamics are governed by physical measures with the SRB property.

A New System with a Self-Excited Fully-Quadratic Strange Attractor and Its Twin Strange Repeller

In nonlinear dynamics, the study of chaotic systems has attracted the attention of many researchers around the world due to the exciting and peculiar properties of such systems. In this regard, the present paper introduces a new system with a self-excited strange attractor and its twin strange repeller. The unique characteristic of the presented system is that the system variables are all in their quadratic forms; therefore, the proposed system is called a fully-quadratic system. This paper also elaborates on the study of the bifurcation diagram, the interpretation of Lyapunov exponents, the representation of basin of attraction, and the calculation of connecting curves as the employed method for investigating the system’s dynamics. The investigation of 2D bifurcation diagrams and Lyapunov exponents indicated in this paper can better recognize the system’s dynamics since they are plotted considering simultaneous changes of two parameters. Moreover, the connecting curves of the proposed system are calculated. The system’s connecting curves help identify the system’s different behaviors by providing general information about the nature of the flows.

Hyperchaos in a Bose-Hubbard Chain with Rydberg-Dressed Interactions

We study the chaos and hyperchaos of Rydberg-dressed Bose–Einstein condensates (BECs) in a one-dimensional optical lattice. Due to the long-range, soft-core interaction between the dressed atoms, the dynamics of the BECs are described by the extended Bose-Hubbard model. In the mean-field regime, we analyze the dynamical stability of the BEC by focusing on the ground state and localized state configurations. Lyapunov exponents of the two configurations are calculated by varying the soft-core interaction strength, potential bias, and length of the lattice. Both configurations can have multiple positive Lyapunov exponents, exhibiting hyperchaotic dynamics. We show the dependence of the number of the positive Lyapunov exponents and the largest Lyapunov exponent on the length of the optical lattice. The largest Lyapunov exponent is directly proportional to areas of phase space encompassed by the associated Poincaré sections. We demonstrate that linear and hysteresis quenches of the lattice potential and the dressed interaction lead to distinct dynamics due to the chaos and hyperchaos. Our work is relevant to current research on chaos as well as collective and emergent nonlinear dynamics of BECs with long-range interactions.

Typical properties of periodic Teichmüller geodesics: Lyapunov exponents

Consider a component ${\cal Q}$ of a stratum in the moduli space of area-one abelian differentials on a surface of genus g. Call a property ${\cal P}$ for periodic orbits of the Teichmüller flow on ${\cal Q}$ typical if the growth rate of orbits with property ${\cal P}$ is maximal. We show that the following property is typical. Given a continuous integrable cocycle over the Teichmüller flow with values in a vector bundle $V\to {\cal Q}$ , the logarithms of the eigenvalues of the matrix defined by the cocycle and the orbit are arbitrarily close to the Lyapunov exponents of the cocycle for the Masur–Veech measure.

Invariant measures for interval maps without Lyapunov exponents

We construct an invariant measure for a piecewise analytic interval map whose Lyapunov exponent is not defined. Moreover, for a set of full measure, the pointwise Lyapunov exponent is not defined. This map has a Lorenz-like singularity and non-flat critical points.

Experimentally Viable Techniques for Accessing Coexisting Attractors Correlated with Lyapunov Exponents

Universal, predictive attractor patterns configured by Lyapunov exponents (LEs) as a function of the control parameter are shown to characterize periodic windows in chaos just as in attractors, using a coherent model of the laser with injected signal. One such predictive pattern, the symmetric-like bubble, foretells of an imminent bifurcation. With a slight decrease in the gain parameter, we find the symmetric-like bubble changes to a curved trajectory of two equal LEs in one attractor, while an increase in the gain reverses this process in another attractor. We generalize the power-shift method for accessing coexisting attractors or periodic windows by augmenting the technique with an interim parameter shift that optimizes attractor retrieval. We choose the gain as our parameter to interim shift. When interim gain-shift results are compared with LE patterns for a specific gain, we find critical points on the LE spectra where the attractor is unlikely to survive the gain shift. Noise and lag effects obscure the power shift minimally for large domain attractors. Small domain attractors are less accessible. The power-shift method in conjunction with the interim parameter shift is attractive because it can be experimentally applied without significant or long-lasting modifications to the experimental system.
