COMPARISON OF K-TYPE AND T-TYPE THERMOCOUPLES FOR STABILITY AND UNIFORMITY OF INFANT INCUBATOR TEMPERATURE TESTING BASED ON IEC 60601-2-19

<p>Infant incubator is one of the most important medical devices for newborn survival, especially preterm. However, aside from its benefits, some irregularities can be found on the devices that could lead to infant mortality, such as temperature deviations. The problem can be minimized by testing the infant incubator temperature parameter in accordance with IEC 60601-2-19 standard. However, there are various types of temperature sensors for related tests. Therefore K-Type and T-Type Thermocouples are compared in order to provide recommendations for infant incubator testing. The measurement technique used were referred to the instructions stated in IEC 60601-2-19 sub-clause Stability (with tolerance ±0.5^oC) and sub-clause Uniformity (with tolerance ±0.8^oC). For K-type thermocouples, the highest stability results at 32^oC is -0.2^oC and at 36^oC is -0.4^oC, while the highest uniformity results at 32^oC is -0.1^oC and at 36^oC is -1.6^oC, with the uncertainty of 1.7^oC. For T-type thermocouples, the highest stability results at 32^oC is 0.4^oC and at 36^oC is -0.4^oC, while the highest uniformity results at 32^oC is 0.7^oC and at 36^oC is 0.8^oC, with the uncertainty of 0.3^oC. The results of the independent t-test showed a different average, where the T-type thermocouples was higher than the K-type thermocouples. In other words, T-type thermocouples could be recommended for infant incubators testing.</p>

Wireless-communication integrated hybrid active noise control system for infant incubators: Improve health outcomes and bonding

This research proposes to develop a wireless communication integrated hybrid active noise control (ANC) system for infant incubators. The integrated ANC system will reduce the level of noise in the infant's ear and provide two-way wireless communication between infant and his/her parents/caregivers both inside and outside the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The proposed system will use the ANC technique to reduce the harmful noise. The wireless communication system will be used to reduce stress and improve bonding and language development. The real-time experiments show that the proposed system can significantly reduce the noise exposure to the infants who are placed in infant incubators. Consequently, a reduction in the health risk produced by high-level noise in NICU and improved bonding opportunities for infants and their parents will be seen.
