Abstract In this paper, a simple mass oscillator metasurface is designed, which can regulate the phase shift of flexural wave covering 0-2π by adjusting the number of mass oscillators on the connecting bar. Based on the forced vibration theory, there is a simple approximately linear relationship between the number and phase shift of mass oscillators, which can more intuitively and accurately predict the phase of different number of mass oscillators, and then realize the metasurface design of mass oscillators with different requirements. Therefore, arbitrary regulation of flexural waves, such as abnormal refraction, beam focusing, and self-acceleration, can be realized by reasonably arranging the number of mass oscillators. The results show that the proposed metasurface can be greatly simplified both in the establishment of phase shift relation and in the fabrication of structure configuration, and will have broad application potential in the engineering field.

The polygonal scaled boundary finite element method (PSBFEM) is a novel approach integrating the standard scaled boundary finite element method and the polygonal mesh technique. In this work, a user-defined element (UEL) for dynamic analysis based on the PSBFEM is developed in the general finite element software ABAQUS. We present the main procedures of interacting with Abaqus, updating AMATRX and RHS, defining the UEL element, and solving the stiffness and mass matrices through eigenvalue decomposition. Several benchmark problems of free and forced vibration are solved to validate the proposed implementation. The results show that the PSBFEM is more accurate than the FEM with mesh refinement. Moreover, the PSBFEM avoids the occurrence of hanging nodes by constructing a polygonal mesh. Thus, the PSBFEM can choose an appropriate mesh resolution for different structures ensuring accuracy and reducing calculation costs.

In this study, the solution of the forced vibration response of a structural element with a fatigue crack was carried out using the finite element method to determine the influence of its presence on the flexural forced vibration behaviour of the compressor blade airfoil at the superharmonic resonance of the order 1/2. The blade airfoil with a low twisted angle was used as an object of investigation to perform the computational analysis. Its vibrations in the plane of minimum stiffness were excited by the kinematic displacement of root edge elements. The fatigue crack was modelled as a mathematical cut. Two locations of the crack were investigated – on the leading edge and convex side of the blade airfoil. The nonlinearity due to the intermittent contact of the crack surfaces, which is caused by the opening and closing of the crack during each vibration cycle, was taken into account by solving the contact problem. To quantify this kind of nonlinear dynamic behaviour, the vibration diagnostic parameter was defined as the displacement amplitude ratio of the dominant harmonics at the superharmonic resonance of the order 1/2. Based on the results of the calculations it has been found that regardless of the crack location, the ratio nature is the same for all vibration axes. However, with vibrations in the plane of minimum stiffness, the crack on the convex side of the airfoil has an opening mode propagation, which makes it possible to fix its location due to a sharp change in the ratio of the amplitudes of the dominant harmonics along the corresponding axis.

In the present study, the nonlinear forced vibration of a rectangular plate is investigated analytically using modified multiple scales method for the first time. The plate is subjected to transversal harmonic excitation, and the boundary condition is assumed to be simply supported. The von Karman nonlinear strain displacement relations are used. The extended Hamilton principle and classical plate theory are applied to derive the partial differential equations of motions. This research focuses on resonance case with 3:1 internal resonance. By applying Galerkin method, the nonlinear partial differential equations are transformed into time dependent nonlinear ordinary differential equations, which are then solved analytically by modified multiple scales method. This proposed approach is very simple and straightforward. The obtained results are then compared with both the traditional multiple scales method and previous studies, and excellent compatibility is noticed. The effect of some of the main parameters of the system is also examined.

This paper provides a finite element analysis of laminated composite plates under the action of a moving vehicle. The vehicle is modeled as a rigid body with four suspension systems, each consisting of a spring-dashpot. Overall, the vehicle possesses three degrees of freedom: vertical, rolling, and pitching motions. The equations of motion of the plate are deduced based on first-order shear deformation theory. Using the Euler-Lagrange equations, the system of coupled equations of motion is extracted and solved by using the Newmark time discretization scheme. The algorithm is validated through the comparison of both the free and forced vibration results provided by the present model and exact or numerical results reported in the literature. The effects are investigated of several system parameters on the dynamic response.
