Abstract Insects warehouse pests contained in commodities, especially tobacco, can cause a decrease in the quantity and quality of commodities. The main pest insects found in tobacco storage warehouses are Lassioderma serricorne and Pholcus phalangioides. This study aims to analyze and compare the effectiveness of phostoxin fumigants to control insect pests L. serricorne and P. phalangioides. Methods used in this study include preparation of test insects, fumigation application, identification, calculation of mortality, and data analysis. The data were analyzed using one way ANOVA test. The results showed that there was a significant difference in morphility between groups of test insects. The highest mortality was in the group of test insects L. serricorne, which indicated that phostoxin fumigants effectively controlling barn insect pests, especially L. serricorne. To control insect pests warehouses in the future, it is recommended to use biopesticides to be safer for food.

The main pest insects found in tobacco storage warehouses are Lassioderma serricorne and Pholcus phalangioides. This study aims to analyze and compare the effectiveness of the use of fumigant storin to control insect pests L. serricorne and P. phalangioides. Methods used in this study include preparation of test insects, fumigation application, identification, calculation of mortality, and data analysis. The data were analyzed statistically using the One Way ANOVA test. The results showed that there was a significant difference in morphility between groups of test insects. Mortality is highest in the L. serricorne test insect group, which indicates that fumigant storin is very effective in controlling barn pest insects, especially L. serricorne. To control insect pests warehouses in the future, it is recommended to use biopesticides to be safer for food.

AbstractCribellar threads are powerful tools for web spiders to catch and retain prey. Spiders encountering such threads, like cribellar web spiders or araneophagic spiders invading cribellar webs, should have a protective mechanism against the adhesion of these threads. We tested for an anti-adhesive surface coating in the web invader Pholcus phalangioides and the cribellate orb weaver Uloborus plumipes. We calculated an index of adhesion for differently treated legs of the two species in a cribellar U. plumipes capture thread, i.e. untreated legs, water-washed legs, and legs washed with the organic solvent n-hexane. The results show that legs of P. phalangioides stick significantly stronger when washed with n-hexane. Our interpretation is that P. phalangioides has an organic surface coating lowering the adhesive force of the cribellar thread. No such mechanism was found in U. plumipes.

We report new records of pholcid species for northern Argentina. Guaranita yaculica Huber, 2000 and Mesabolivar uruguayensis Machado Laborda, Simó & Brescovit, 2013 are reported for the first time for Corrientes province, whereas Aymaria calilegua Huber, 2000 and Nerudia atacama Huber, 2000 are for the first time reported for Salta province. The last corresponds to a new record for Argentina. We also expand the known distribution of Guaranita goloboffi Huber, 2000, Chibchea salta Huber, 2000, and Pholcus phalangioides (Fuesslin, 1775) for Salta province.
