When working towards regulation of supersonic aviation, a comprehensive understanding of the global climate effect of supersonic aviation is required in order to develop future regulatory issues. Such research requires a comprehensive overview of existing scientific literature having explored the climate effect of aviation. This review article provides an overview on earlier studies assessing the climate effects of supersonic aviation, comprising non-CO2 effects. An overview on the historical evaluation of research focussing on supersonic aviation and its environmental impacts is provided, followed by an overview on concepts explored and construction of emission inventories. Quantitative estimates provided for individual effects are presented and compared. Subsequently, regulatory issues related to supersonic transport are summarised. Finally, requirements for future studies, e.g., in emission scenario construction or numerical modelling of climate effects, are summarised and main conclusions discussed.

Background: Quantitative estimates of collateral resistance induced by antibiotic use are scarce. This study compared the effects of treatment with amoxicillin/clavulanate or cefazolin, compared to cefuroxime, on future resistance to ceftazidime among hospitalized patients. Methods: A retrospective analysis of patients with positive bacterial cultures hospitalized in an Israeli hospital during 2016-2019 was conducted. Patients were restricted to those treated with either amoxicillin/clavulanate, cefazolin, or cefuroxime and re-hospitalized with a positive bacterial culture during the following year. A 1:1 matching was performed for each patient in the amoxicillin/clavulanate and cefazolin groups, to a single patient from the cefuroxime group, yielding 185:185 and 298:298 matched patients. Logistic regression and g-formula (standardization) were used to estimate the odds ratio (OR), risk difference (RD), and number needed to harm (NNH). Results: Cefuroxime induced significantly higher resistance to ceftazidime than amoxicillin/clavulanate or cefazolin: the marginal OR was 1.76) 95%CI 1.16-2.83) compared to amoxicillin/clavulanate, and 1.98 (95%CI 1.41- 2.8) compared to cefazolin; The RD was 0.118 (95%CI 0.031-0.215) compared to amoxicillin/clavulanate, and 0.131 (95%CI 0.058-0.197) compared to cefazolin. We also estimated the NNH: replacing amoxicillin/clavulanate or cefazolin with cefuroxime would yield ceftazidime-resistance in one more patient for every 8.5 (95% CI 4.66-32.14) or 7.6 (95% CI 5.1-17.3) patients re-hospitalized in the following year. Conclusions: Our results indicate that treatment with amoxicillin/clavulanate or cefazolin is preferable to cefuroxime, in terms of future collateral resistance. The results presented here are a first step towards quantitative estimations of the ecological damage caused by different antibiotics.

In particular, we establish upper semi-continuity properties for the variational eigenvalues of the $${\bar{\partial }}$$ ∂ ¯ -Neumann Laplacian on bounded pseudoconvex domains in $${\mathbb {C}}^n$$ C n , lower semi-continuity properties on pseudoconvex domains that satisfy property (P), and quantitative estimates on smooth bounded pseudoconvex domains of finite D’Angelo type in $${\mathbb {C}}^n$$ C n .

The behavior of a water-in-oil emulsion stabilized with asphaltenes under the action of an inhomogeneous alternating electric field has been studied. The experimental technique is based on the use of microfluidics, optical microscopy, and high-speed video filming. Quantitative estimates of the parameters characterizing the dynamics of the destruction of the emulsion, depending on the frequency and amplitude of the applied field, are obtained. The method will be useful in the development of effective methods for breaking emulsions and modifying existing technologies for separating oil emulsions into phases.

In the present paper, we consider the Kantorovich modification of generalized Lupaş operators, whose construction depends on a continuously differentiable, increasing and unbounded function $\rho$. For these new operators we give weighted approximation, Voronovskaya type theorem, quantitative estimates for the local approximation.

The performance of a Global Spectral Model (T-80) operational at the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF), New Delhi in predicting the cyclogenesis of six tropical cyclones over Indian Seas formed during 1995-96 has been evaluated. It has been found that the model has the capability to predict cyclogenesis in wind field at least 72 hours in advance although the positions of predicted vortices are seen to be displaced from those of analysed ones in some cases. The quantitative estimates of the atmospheric conditions favourable for cyclogenesis also confirm the conclusions drawn from the qualitative analysis of cyclogenesis predictions of the model in terms of appearance of cyclonic circulation. It also follows from this analysis that the predicted circulations at the cyclogenesis stage are in general more intense and stronger as compared to the corresponding analysis in terms of wind and mass fields. On examining the model systematic errors of prediction it is found that the model has a clear bias for predicting more intense vortex during genesis and weakening stages. On the order hand it predicts relatively less intense vortex during intensification process.

The paper aims to develop an econometric model for the routine diagnosis of enterprises' level of readiness for digital transformation (DT) on the example of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Vietnam. The use of questionnaires allowed obtaining quantitative estimates of SMEs' level of readiness for DT in Vietnam. Factor analysis with the principal component method determines the list of factors of SMEs' readiness for DT. The ranges of the level of preparedness in Vietnam were determined, resulting in the classification of enterprises in the groups of "Newcomers," "Learners," and "Leaders" according to their use of digital technology and smart manufacturing. The integral index made it possible to quantify the impact of DT's readiness on SMEs' sustainability. The study results revealed that the nature of the impact depends on the level of SMEs' readiness for DT.
