Abstract Let M be a geometrically finite acylindrical hyperbolic $3$ -manifold and let $M^*$ denote the interior of the convex core of M. We show that any geodesic plane in $M^*$ is either closed or dense, and that there are only countably many closed geodesic planes in $M^*$ . These results were obtained by McMullen, Mohammadi and Oh [Geodesic planes in hyperbolic 3-manifolds. Invent. Math.209 (2017), 425–461; Geodesic planes in the convex core of an acylindrical 3-manifold. Duke Math. J., to appear, Preprint, 2018, arXiv:1802.03853] when M is convex cocompact. As a corollary, we obtain that when M covers an arithmetic hyperbolic $3$ -manifold $M_0$ , the topological behavior of a geodesic plane in $M^*$ is governed by that of the corresponding plane in $M_0$ . We construct a counterexample of this phenomenon when $M_0$ is non-arithmetic.

Abstract We characterise the Zoll Riemannian metrics on a given simply connected spin closed manifold as those Riemannian metrics for which two suitable min-max values in a finite dimensional loop space coincide. We also show that on odd dimensional Riemannian spheres, when certain pairs of min-max values in the loop space coincide, every point lies on a closed geodesic.

Abstract In this paper we study a black hole phase transition in a generalized JT gravity noticed in arXiv:2006.03494. We investigate the effect of the phase transition on the Euclidean geodesic and holographic two-point function in models with dilaton potential which interpolates two ordinary JT gravities with different cosmological constants. It is noted that there exists a closed geodesic with a new scale at low temperature phase when the potential has a locally negative region. This scale causes several peaks in the two-point function. We also comment on the phase transition of charged black holes. We then consider coupling generalized JT gravity to a matter and study its relation to a $$ T\overline{T} $$ T T ¯ deformation of CFT at the classical level. We find the deformation parameter as a function of the dilaton and provide examples showing Janus-type couplings.

<p style='text-indent:20px;'>In this paper, we prove a symmetric property for the indices for symplectic paths in the enhanced common index jump theorem (cf. Theorem 3.5 in [<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="b6">6</xref>]). As an application of this property, we prove that on every compact Finsler manifold <inline-formula><tex-math id="M1">\begin{document}$ (M, \, F) $\end{document}</tex-math></inline-formula> with reversibility <inline-formula><tex-math id="M2">\begin{document}$ \lambda $\end{document}</tex-math></inline-formula> and flag curvature <inline-formula><tex-math id="M3">\begin{document}$ K $\end{document}</tex-math></inline-formula> satisfying <inline-formula><tex-math id="M4">\begin{document}$ \left(\frac{\lambda}{\lambda+1}\right)^2&lt;K\le 1 $\end{document}</tex-math></inline-formula>, there exist two elliptic closed geodesics whose linearized Poincaré map has an eigenvalue of the form <inline-formula><tex-math id="M5">\begin{document}$ e^{\sqrt {-1}\theta} $\end{document}</tex-math></inline-formula> with <inline-formula><tex-math id="M6">\begin{document}$ \frac{\theta}{\pi}\notin{\bf Q} $\end{document}</tex-math></inline-formula> provided the number of closed geodesics on <inline-formula><tex-math id="M7">\begin{document}$ M $\end{document}</tex-math></inline-formula> is finite.</p>

Abstract Given a closed geodesic on a compact arithmetic hyperbolic surface, we show the existence of a sequence of Laplacian eigenfunctions whose integrals along the geodesic exhibit nontrivial growth. Via Waldspurger’s formula we deduce a lower bound for central values of Rankin-Selberg L-functions of Maass forms times theta series associated to real quadratic fields.

In the spherical space the curvature of the tetrahedron’s faces equals 1, and the curvature of the whole tetrahedron is concentrated into its vertices and faces. The intrinsic geometry of this tetrahedron depends on the value α of faces angle, where π/3 < α ⩽ 2π/3. The simple (without points of self-intersection) closed geodesic has the type (p,q) on a tetrahedron, if this geodesic has p points on each of two opposite edges of the tetrahedron, q points on each of another two opposite edges, and (p+q) points on each edges of the third pair of opposite one. For any coprime integers (p,q), we present the number αp, q (π/3 < αp, q < 2π/3) such that, on a regular tetrahedron in the spherical space with the faces angle of value α > αp, q, there is no simple closed geodesic of type (p,q)

Abstract We study compact hyperbolic surface laminations. These are a generalisation of closed hyperbolic surfaces, which appear to be more suited to the study of Teichmüller theory than arbitrary non-compact surfaces. We show that the Teichmüller space of any non-trivial hyperbolic surface lamination is infinite dimensional. In order to prove this result, we study the theory of deformations of hyperbolic surfaces, and we derive a new formula for the derivative of the length of a simple closed geodesic with respect to the action of grafting. This formula complements those derived by McMullen [ 24], in terms of the Weil–Petersson metric, and by Wolpert [ 34], for the case of earthquakes.
