Like modernism, postmodernism was an international phenomenon with significant regional variants. Britain played an important role in mediating between the very different postmodernisms developing in North America and Continental Europe. It helped that London was at the centre of architectural discourse in the 1970s. The Architectural Association attracted international figures such as Charles Jencks, Léon Krier, and Rem Koolhaas, while publications such as Architectural Design and Andreas Papadakis's Academy Editions imprint combined coverage of new buildings with excursions into theory and history. James Stirling, John Outram, and Edward Jones won important overseas commissions, while the work of Terry Farrell, Jeremy Dixon, and others was exhibited at the seminal 1980 Venice Biennale.

Masculinity : Male Traits in 1930s Portrayed in Public Enemies

This article discusses the masculinity of John Dillinger as the main male character inPublic Enemies Film (2009); directed by Michael Mann, and produced by Universal Pictures. This film is clearly described that men who appear strong, physically attractive, charming, and smart fall into the category of masculine.This study used descriptive qualitative method by using Janet Saltzman Chafetz’s concept of masculinity in seven areas or forms such as the physical image, the function in life, the sexual aggressiveness, the emotion, the intelligence, the personality, and other personality characteristics. In the first part of analysis, the research reveals the characteristics of John Dillinger utilizing Edward Jones’ Characterization theory, before assigning them to the seven areas or forms of Chafetz’s concept of masculinity.The result shows that the main male character,John Dillinger adjusts his characteristics based on the person he interacts with.John Dillinger as the main male character in Public Enemies film defines his position as a man in the society in the 1930s. He plays andtakes a dominant role as a leader for his gang members; his lover, Billie Frechette,by caring, protecting, and supporting them. On the other side, Dillinger is apathetic against the authority. Self-Presentation – A Precondition for Social Interactio (Theoretical Aspects)

The current article presents some of the theoretical aspects of self-presentation describing different points of view on the issue. The ideas of Erving Goffman, Edward Jones, Barry Schlenker, Roy Baumeister and others are being explored. Concepts related to to self-presentation are presented. Different types and functions of self-expression are identified.

The Burden of Stigma on Health and Well-Being: A Taxonomy of Concealment, Course, Disruptiveness, Aesthetics, Origin, and Peril Across 93 Stigmas

Most individuals are stigmatized at some point. However, research often examines stigmas separately, thus underestimating the overall impact of stigma and precluding comparisons across stigmatized identities and conditions. In their classic text, Social Stigma: The Psychology of Marked Relationships, Edward Jones and colleagues laid the groundwork for unifying the study of different stigmas by considering the shared dimensional features of stigmas: aesthetics, concealability, course, disruptiveness, origin, peril. Despite the prominence of this framework, no study has documented the extent to which stigmas differ along these dimensions, and the implications of this variation for health and well-being. We reinvigorated this framework to spur a comprehensive account of stigma’s impact by classifying 93 stigmas along these dimensions. With the input of expert and general public raters, we then located these stigmas in a six-dimensional space and created discrete clusters organized around these dimensions. Next, we linked this taxonomy to health and stigma-related mechanisms. This quantitative taxonomy offers parsimonious insights into the relationship among the numerous qualities of numerous stigmas and health.

Enquête sur la provenance et les pérégrinations de deux livres d’Heures enluminés du XVe siècle conservés aux Archives des jésuites au Canada

Les Relations et le Journal des jésuites attestèrent la présence de livres d’Heures en Nouvelle-France au XVIIe siècle. À la même époque, les hospitalières de l’Hôtel-Dieu de Québec réclamaient des livres d’Heures auprès de leurs bienfaiteurs européens, perpétuant certaines pratiques de dévotion héritées du Moyen-Âge et de la Renaissance. Deux livres d’Heures du XVe siècle sont conservés aux Archives des jésuites au Canada. Cette enquête vise à retracer les routes que purent emprunter les deux manuscrits avant d’entrer dans les Archives du Collège Sainte-Marie fondées en 1844 par le père Félix Martin. À la fin du XIXe et au début XXe siècle, les deux livres furent mis en valeur par le père Arthur Edward Jones, dans le cadre d’expositions consacrées aux manuscrits des premiers missionnaires jésuites en Amérique du Nord. Cette enquête vise aussi à prendre la mesure de l’intérêt que ces Heures suscitèrent chez les bibliophiles jésuites et laïcs. The Jesuit Relations and the Journal des jésuites attest to the presence of Books of Hours in New France during the seventeenth century. At the same time, the Hospitallers of the Hôtel-Dieu in Quebec were demanding Books of Hours from their European benefactors, thus continuing certain devotional practices inherited from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Two Books of Hours from the fifteenth century are preserved at the Archive of the Jesuits in Canada. This inquiry is aimed at retracing the routes that the two manuscripts had taken before arriving at the Archive of the Collège Sainte-Marie, which was founded in 1844 by Father Felix Martin. At the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century, the two books were given pride of place by Father Arthur Edward Jones at the centre of expositions devoted to manuscripts of the first Jesuit missionaries in North America. This investigation is additionally aimed at assessing the interest taken in these Hours among Jesuit bibliophiles and the laity.
