This chapter explores the evolving field of corporate social responsibility (CSR) research and practices in the Sustainable Development Goals era. The authors introduce a contemporary definition of CSR reflective of the SDGs era. Section 1 provides an exploration of the conceptual and theoretical foundations underpinning the evolution of CSR approaches. Section 2 advocates for the SDGs framework in support of the proliferation of sustainability management across business settings. Section 3 delineates how adopting the SDGs as a framework for corporate sustainability can enhance corporate resilience towards economic shocks. Section 4 discusses strategic perspectives on corporate sustainability management and elaborates on the role of business in satisfying promises of sustainable development. Illuminating the legitimacy of the SDGs as a framework for positioning corporations as global sustainability leaders, this chapter serves as a roadmap outlining how business can advance their CSR strategies to align business goals with societal needs in a post-COVID-19 world.

Purpose Steered by upper echelon theory, this study aims to scrutinize the prevalence of project manager demographic factors (age, education and experience) in project sustainability management and project performance. Design/methodology/approach We used a sample of 209 project managers/supervisor/team leaders who were working in the projects of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Findings The results indicate that project manager demographic factors have a significant influence on project performance (except experience) and project sustainability management. Moreover, project sustainability management partially mediates the relationship between age, education and project performance while it fully mediates the path between experience and project performance. Practical implications The research recommends senior, high educated and experienced managers for CPEC who promote sustainability and gain high project performance. Originality/value A number of studies have been carried out to assess the relationship between top managers’ attributes and environmental activities. However, so far, none of the studies has paid attention to the CPEC and projects working in Pakistan.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to establish the relationship between stakeholder market orientation (StMO) and sustainability performance (SP) at tourism destinations (TDs). Design/methodology/approach Using a quantitative survey, data was collected from 313 tourism business managers, who are the owners or managers of the tourism businesses at the TDs, and was analysed using the partial least square structural equation model. Findings Findings indicate that environmental performance is the highest sustainability management practice adhered to at the TDs. Also, community and visitor orientations predicted SP most, with all its hypotheses supported. Research limitations/implications This study focuses on the impact of StMO dimensions on SP within the TDs, thereby limiting generalisation to other sectors. Practical implications Tourism marketing managers are given the knowledge that StMO strategy is a precondition for effective implementation and adoption of SP strategy. Social implications The results have key social implications, in that a sustainability marketing strategy that will assist in the increase acceptance of sustainability programs within the tourism sector has been noted. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is believed to be the first empirical study to test the relationship between StMO dimensions and three SP dimensions. This study will improve the sustainability management of tourism resources in Ghana. It will further aid in meeting some of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The functions performed by facility management practitioners and their classification have evolved over the last decades. The practice of Facility Management integrates many professions; however, certain authors have pointed out that heterogeneous views are generated by those responsible for the facilities and this has caused confusion about the understanding of the discipline in recent years. In addition, different attitudes about the discipline have been presented depending on the vision of the British or American schools of FM, which face the objectives and tasks throughout these years in different ways. This causes diffuse areas that prevent the identification of the entire spectrum of functions related to support activities in a facility management system. The objective of this research was to identify and classify the functions performed until the present time by facility managers in the literature to establish the scope of a facility management system. In this work, the authors carried out a review of the literature and an analysis of the different documents that gave rise to a proposal of the different functions performed and their classification into main areas. Later, a validation of the proposal was requested through an expert consultation in facility management in Latin America, which reached 94% approval. The validated proposal is composed of at least 37 functions performed by facility management professionals, and these functions can be classified into six main areas: Asset and Maintenance Management; Real Estate and Property Management; Energy and Sustainability Management; Corporate Project Management; Workplace Management; and Facilities Services Management.
