Background: People experiencing homelessness are disproportionately affected by hepatitis C virus (HCV) and can face specific barriers to care. Simple treatment algorithms could increase linkage to care in this population. Methods: This retrospective real-world analysis pooling data from 15 clinical cohorts evaluated effectiveness of a once-daily sofosbuvir/velpatasvir (SOF/VEL) regimen in HCV-infected people experiencing homelessness. The primary outcome was sustained virological response (SVR) in the effectiveness population (patients with confirmed SVR status). Secondary outcomes included reasons for not achieving SVR, adherence and time between diagnosis and SOF/VEL treatment start. Results: Of 153 patients treated with SOF/VEL for 12 weeks without ribavirin, SVR was 100% in the effectiveness population (n = 122), irrespective of various baseline factors including active injecting drug use and presence of mental health disorders. Conclusion: HCV-infected people experiencing homelessness can successfully be treated with SOF/VEL. SOF/VEL enables implementation of simple treatment algorithms and can support test-and-treat strategies through rapid treatment starts and minimal monitoring.

As part of our ongoing scaffold hopping work on antimalarial 2-aminothieno[3,2-d]pyrimidin-4-one scaffold, we explored the dihydrothieno[3,2-d][1,3,2]diazaborinin-4(1H)-one as a potential new antimalarial series. Using conditions found in the literature, we obtained 2-cyclopropyl-6-phenyl-2,3-dihydrothieno[3,2-d][1,3,2]diazaborinin-4(1H)-one with 93% yield through a simple treatment. It was then characterized by NMR (1H and 13C) and HRMS. Given the structure of this molecule, its aqueous stability was assessed to determine its suitability for biological tests. To our knowledge, this is the first dihydrothieno[3,2-d][1,3,2]diazaborinin-4(1H)-one described.

Congenital melanocytic nevi of the face cause substantial psychological and cosmetic problems in affected patients. The treatment of giant congenital nevi has been a long-standing challenge, but currently, various treatment options, such as cryotherapy, chemical peeling, electrical cautery, laser therapy, and surgery, have been tried for the treatment of congenital melanocytic nevi. In this article, we present our experience and the outcomes of the use of controlled carbon dioxide gas as a cryogen in the treatment of congenital melanocytic nevi. This study included 42 patients with varying sizes of congenital melanocytic nevi seen from January 2014 to April 2019. Cryocarboxy surgery was performed in all cases. The average evaluation score of our patients was excellent in 28 (66.6%) cases, good in 9 (21.4%) cases, satisfactory in 5 (12%) cases, and we had no poor results. Cryocarboxy surgery is a good addition to the armamentarium for the treatment of congenital melanocytic nevi. Carbon dioxide is a cheap, non-explosive, and readily available gas.

Habit-tic deformity is a classic example of overlap between the domains of dermatology and psychiatry.  Mostly seen in adults, it results from the habit of picking or pushing the cuticle backward. A case of habit-tic deformity of a single thumb nail is reported and the simple treatment measure adopted discussed.
