Direct real time analysis (DART) is the most successful tool for the analysis of the compounds. This technique is useful for the identification, and classification of compounds. It is widely followed by the forensic chemistry, and also used for many purposes. Their main applications include inks, paints, drugs, bank dyes, explosives, beverages, and gunshot etc. The basic concepts of DART-MS were highlighted to understand the process. Also the basic fundamentals of DART-MS including special function were discussed. Various natural products were discovered by DART-MS includes plant tissue, insects, and microbe etc. The main focus of this review article is on the applications of direct real time analysis, which covers the varieties of uses in our pharmaceutical as well as chemical industries. This technique was helpful in the production of food material, and to identify the contaminants from animal sources in the part of veterinary drugs. Also, used in food processing in the form of additives, and adulterants. DART-MS has huge applications on analysis of seized drug like steroids supplements, psychoactive plants etc. Also, in inks, paint, and documents industry this technique has been widely used. So, this review covers the basic fundamentals of direct real time analysis DART-MS, and their applications.

This investigation focuses on the North Andes and includes discussion of monumental stone sculpture in the environs of San Agustín, Colombia, as well as Muisca, Quimbaya, and Darién (Sinú) goldworking traditions. Through formal and iconographic analyses of ceremonial paraphernalia, this paper shows that the primary ideologies of the cultures of this region involved the use of several psychoactive plants.

The final chapter discusses a number of post-1960s developments, focusing particularly on the ideas of two influential thinkers who were shaped in different ways by the psychedelic revolution, Carlos Castaneda and Terence McKenna. Central to the thought of both of them was the significance of shamanism. The chapter also discusses the emergence of interest in constructing contemporary indigenous and ancient shamanic cultures as psychedelic cultures. Since the late nineteenth century, there has been a growing interest in the uses of psychoactive plants in indigenous religious contexts. This interest was particularly stimulated by the work of R. Gordon Wasson, whose theories are discussed.

Abstract Ayahuasca is a potent hallucinogenic beverage prepared from Banisteriopsis caapi in combination with other psychoactive plants. N,N-dimethyltryptamine, tryptamine, harmine, harmaline, harmalol, and tetrahydroharmine were quantified in ayahuasca samples using a simple and low-cost method based on SPE and LC with UV diode-array detection. The experimental variables that affect the SPE method, such as type of solid phase and nature of solvent, were optimized. The method showed good linearity (r > 0.9902) and repeatability (RSD < 0.8%) for alkaloid compounds, with an LOD of 0.12 mg/L. The proposed method was used to analyze 20 samples from an ayahuasca cooking process from a religious group located in the municipality of Fortaleza, state of Ceará, Brazil. The results showed that concentrations of the target compounds ranged from 0.3 to 36.7 g/L for these samples.
