Abstract We consider gravity compactifications whose internal space consists of small bridges connecting larger manifolds, possibly noncompact. We prove that, under rather general assumptions, this leads to a massive spin-two field with very small mass. The argument involves a recently-noticed relation to Bakry-Émery geometry, a version of the so-called Cheeger constant, and the theory of synthetic Ricci lower bounds. The latter technique allows generalizations to non-smooth spaces such as those with D-brane singularities. For AdSd vacua with a bridge admitting an AdSd+1 interpretation, the holographic dual is a CFTd with two CFTd−1 boundaries. The ratio of their degrees of freedom gives the graviton mass, generalizing results obtained by Bachas and Lavdas for d = 4. We also prove new bounds on the higher eigenvalues. These are in agreement with the spin-two swampland conjecture in the regime where the background is scale-separated; in the opposite regime we provide examples where they are in naive tension with it.

AbstractThe graph Cheeger constant and Cheeger inequalities are generalized to the case of hypergraphs whose edges have the same cardinality. In particular, it is shown that the second largest eigenvalue of the generalized normalized Laplacian is bounded both above and below by the generalized Cheeger constant, and the corresponding eigenfunctions can be used to approximate the Cheeger cut.

AbstractWe establish new eigenvalue inequalities in terms of the weighted Cheeger constant for drifting p-Laplacian on smooth metric measure spaces with or without boundary. The weighted Cheeger constant is bounded from below by a geometric constant involving the divergence of suitable vector fields. On the other hand, we establish a weighted form of Escobar–Lichnerowicz–Reilly lower bound estimates on the first nonzero eigenvalue of the drifting bi-Laplacian on weighted manifolds. As an application, we prove buckling eigenvalue lower bound estimates, first, on the weighted geodesic balls and then on submanifolds having bounded weighted mean curvature.

AbstractFor Riemannian submersions with fibers of basic mean curvature, we compare the spectrum of the total space with the spectrum of a Schrödinger operator on the base manifold. Exploiting this concept, we study submersions arising from actions of Lie groups. In this context, we extend the state-of-the-art results on the bottom of the spectrum under Riemannian coverings. As an application, we compute the bottom of the spectrum and the Cheeger constant of connected, amenable Lie groups.

In this paper, we construct a new framework that’s we call the weighted [Formula: see text]-simplicial complex and we define its spectral gap. An upper bound for our spectral gap is given by generalizing the Cheeger constant. The lower bound for our spectral gap is obtained from the first nonzero eigenvalue of the Laplacian acting on the functions of certain weighted [Formula: see text]-simplicial complexes.

We solve a class of isoperimetric problems on $\mathbb{R}^2_+ $ with respect to monomial weights. Let $\alpha $ and $\beta $ be real numbers such that $0\le \alpha <\beta+1$, $\beta\le 2 \alpha$. We show that,  among all smooth sets $\Omega$ in $\mathbb{R} ^2_+$ with fixed weighted measure $\iint_{\Omega } y^{\beta} dxdy$, the weighted perimeter $\int_{\partial \Omega } y^\alpha \, ds$ achieves its minimum for a smooth set which is symmetric w.r.t. to the $y$--axis, and is explicitly given. Our results also imply an estimate of a weighted Cheeger constant and a  bound for eigenvalues of some nonlinear problems.

We introduce the signless 1-Laplacian and the dual Cheeger constant on simplicial complexes.  The connection of its spectrum to the combinatorial properties like independence number,  chromatic number and dual Cheeger constant is investigated. Our estimates  can be comparable to Hoffman's bounds on Laplacian eigenvalues of simplicial complexes. An interesting inequality involving multiplicity of the largest eigenvalue, independence number and chromatic number is provided, which could be regarded as a variant version of Lovász sandwich theorem. Also, the behavior of 1-Laplacian under the topological operations of wedge and duplication of motifs is studied. The Courant nodal domain theorem in spectral theory is extended to the setting of signless 1-Laplacian on complexes.

We provide a geometric characterization of the minimal and maximal minimizer of the prescribed curvature functional P(E) − κ|E| among subsets of a Jordan domain Ω with no necks of radius κ−1, for values of κ greater than or equal to the Cheeger constant of Ω. As an application, we describe all minimizers of the isoperimetric profile for volumes greater than the volume of the minimal Cheeger set, relative to a Jordan domain Ω which has no necks of radius r, for all r. Finally, we show that for such sets and volumes the isoperimetric profile is convex.
