The article discusses the motif of fear in nine illustrated books about the Moomins by Tove Jansson. Methodologically, the study is a qualitative analysis from the perspective of the double address, the psychological differentiation between the concepts of fear and anxiety, and the iconotextual reading. Although Moomin Valley has been traditionally perceived as a literary arcadia, the plot of the books is surprisingly often interwoven with disasters and dangers, including a volcanic eruption, a freezing winter, a comet, floods, and frequent storms. Jansson employed these motifs — evoking fear triggered by substantive causes — in the contents addressed to inexperienced recipients. She did it intentionally and was convinced that children enjoy fear as long as the story ends happily. In this context a particularly sophisticated character is the Groke, which is usually considered as the most terrifying monster in the series. She appears in four volumes — Finn Family Moomintroll (1948), The Exploits of Moominpappa (1950), Moominland Midwinter (1957), Moomin pappa at Sea (1965) — and the analysis proves that her characterization signifi cantly evolves. Her nuanced nature is from the beginning available to more experienced readers, since it is included in the visual representation, disputing the verbal. Furthermore, the Groke appears to be a hybrid character, as she evokes both fear relating to a specific object and anxiety stemming from an unknown threat — in fact, there are no rational reasons for fearing her.

The article considers the linguistic specifics of the external and internal speech in I. S. Turgenev's novel “Fathers and Sons”. Various ways of their compositional and syntactic interaction regulated by the author are revealed. They are determined by the dynamics of characters’ relationships, their social and psychological differentiation and development of images. The interaction is most difficult in dialogues based on dissonance or unison of the characters’ external and internal speech.

The present paper attempts to go through a systematic review on nature of cognitive styles and approaches. When it comes to studying psychological process cognitive style appear as most prominent concept linked with many other psychological processes like problem solving, decision-making, socialization and spatial ability etc. Cognitive style is generally known as way of processing and analyzing information from the environment. The term cognitive styles have been studied since 1960 it was assumed as part of psychological differentiation. But nowadays it is also known as perceptual styles. Often times these terms have been used interchangeably but there is slight difference between these concepts. In the present paper we will analyze the concept of cognitive style, approaches to study cognitive style, new emerging fields in cognitive styles and researches in cognitive styles in Indian perspective. Analysis of review showed that there is abundance of research in cognitive style and its relationship to ecological perspective, and teaching but there is still need for the research in using socio-cultural variable in Indian context.

There is re-emerging interest in adopting forced-choice items to address the issue of response bias in Likert-type items for noncognitive latent traits. Multidimensional pairwise comparison (MPC) items are commonly used forced-choice items. However, few studies have been aimed at developing item response theory models for MPC items owing to the challenges associated with ipsativity. Acknowledging that the absolute scales of latent traits are not identifiable in ipsative tests, this study developed a Rasch ipsative model for MPC items that has desirable measurement properties, yields a single utility value for each statement, and allows for comparing psychological differentiation between and within individuals. The simulation results showed a good parameter recovery for the new model with existing computer programs. This article provides an empirical example of an ipsative test on work style and behaviors.
