ABBREVIATION AS THE MEANS OF EXPRESSING EMOTIONS OF THE LANGUAGE PERSONALITY (ON THE MATERIAL OF SMS MESSAGES IN ENGLISH DISCOURSE)

The paper considers the role of the language personality in speech activity in neologizations of abbreviated SMS messages in the English discourse. Within the framework of the communicative-discursive direction in Russian linguistics, a paradigmatic approach to the study of the role of the language personality in the creation of new knowledge has been established. The language personality is able to participate in the process of nominating objects and actions of the world picture. Intralinguistic and extralinguistic factors influence language changes. Intralinguistic factors provide potential for language renewal, including its neologization, in accordance with the laws of dialectical development. Extra- linguistic factors are represented by numerous social and socio-political phe- nomena from the surrounding world. The high popularity of SMS messages is explained not only by the action of the law of saving speech efforts in the language, but also by the ability of language personality to express emotions in the language, thanks to the opportunities for innovations and improvisations inherent in it. The paper considers the language functions and stylistic features of abbreviated SNS messages in English discourse.

The paradigm of Hungarian -ik verbs and their current position in the verb system and the language use

The article deals with the typology of the paradigms of Hungarian verb and describes the phenomenon of the originally medial-reflexive -ik verbs of Hungarian. The article presents the problems caused by the use of the paradigm revived by the Hungarian language renewal in the 19th century and compares the use of the -ik verbs by bilingual Hungarian students in Slovakia with their contemporaries in Hungary. The result of the study shows that Hungarian high school students in Slovakia are more likely to search for standard variants compared to their Hungarian peers if they feel that using a non-standard solution could lead to a negative value judgment.

Egy nyelvújítási szó rejtőzködő élete: a burkony

The paper discusses the history of the word burkony based on a drama translation by János Arany. The word is now obsolete but it was a decidedly widespread word of the Hungarian language renewal in the second half of the 1800s. An examination of examples from press language and the specialized literature yields several consequences: first, the investigation clarifies the etymology of the word and enriches it with new results; second, the significant amount of material presented illustrates the structure and history of meaning of the word in a complex way. This material is still unrepresented in Hungarian dictionaries. Filling this gap, the paper reports on new results with re-spect to the specific semantic characteristics and history of this word.

Stylization of Ornamental Narrative in the Prose of Denis Osokin. The Cycle of Stories “Angels and Revolution. Vyatka 1923”

The article analyzes the poetics of the short story cycle “Angels and Revolution. Viatka 1923” by modern Russian writer Denis Osokin. The author, developing the tradition of Russian ornamental prose of the 20 th century, creates a modern interpretation of revolutionary events. The fictional locus of Viatka 1923 becomes a space of the artistic experiment for language renewal. Using the technique of stylization of the ornamental narrative, Denis Osokin forms the image of an impersonal narrator consisting of many narrative-rhetorical figures that weaken the fabulality of the narrative. The artistic integrity of the cycle is preserved by a system of style, intertextual, and motivational equivalences that create a special form of lyrical plot characteristic for ornamental prose.
