AbstractA chemical leaching process has been used for the cleanup of two municipal biosolids (MOS and BES) spiked with Cd, Cu, Zn or their mixture prior to agricultural use. Non-cleaned, cleaned and washed biosolids were compared as soil amendments for corn cultivation inside glasshouse. Corn growth, biosorption of metals and leaching of these metals in leachate were measured. Results showed that biosolid amendments tend to produce more aerial biomass. Cleanup and washing of BES biosolid significantly augmented total biomass of roots and stalks, respectively. Regarding biosorption of metals, Cd could not be found neither in corn seeds, nor in stalks, while slight amounts of Cu were detected. Whereas Cd and Cu diminished in the order roots > leaves > stalks, Zn diminished from leaves > roots > stalks. Cleanup and washing of MOS and BES biosolids significantly lowered biosorption of Cd, Cu, Zn, and other metals. Leaching into the outlet water varied with time, but average concentrations were moderately low. There were significant amounts of metal leached from MOS biosolid. The effects of cleanup and washing of both biosolids on biosorption and leaching depended on the initial metallic charge and the biosolid type.

The magnetoresistance (MR) of a material is typically insensitive to reversing the applied field direction and varies quadratically with magnetic field in the low-field limit. Quantum effects, unusual topological band structures, and inhomogeneities that lead to wandering current paths can induce a cross-over from quadratic to linear MR with increasing magnetic field. Here we explore a series of metallic charge- and spin-density-wave systems that exhibit extremely large positive linear MR. By contrast to other linear MR mechanisms, this effect remains robust down to miniscule magnetic fields of tens of Oersted at low temperature. We frame an explanation of this phenomenon in a semiclassical narrative for a broad category of materials with partially gapped Fermi surfaces due to density waves.

The influence of interface charge transfer between the semiconductor and cocatalyst has rarely been addressed. The concept of construction of a metallic charge transfer channel could be employed as a general strategy for photoconversion applications.

The paper presents results of experimental studies on the effect of non-uniform temperature distribution over the metallic charge length on the energy parameters change during round bars rolling process. Experimental tests were conducted on the D370 Continuous Shape Mill in industrial works. From the tests carried out, it has been found that the main cause of occurrence of the non-uniform distribution of temperature over the charge length is the process of heating the metallic charge in the walking beam furnace. During rolling of bars from metallic charge with non-uniform temperature distribution over its length, changes in friction conditions in the zone of contact between the band and the rolls and in the plastic properties of steel being rolled occur. For decrease temperature during metallic charge rolling process about 100 °C (Fig. 2) in walking beam furnace, increase of rolling torque and total rolling power about 30% during rolling process metallic charge in first continuous shape mill stand was observed.
