A Survey of Students’ Motivation in College English Learning Under Production-Oriented Approach in NCEPU

This study investigates students’ motivation in college English learning under production-oriented approach by means of a questionnaire. Forty students in their first-year study participated in this survey. They came from four different disciplines: electronic engineering, automatic engineering, mechanic engineering and power engineering. They were required to fill in the questionnaire at the beginning of the second semester before the teaching reform and at the end of the second semester when the teaching reform was conducted respectively. Our study indicates that students in increasing numbers begin to show great interest in college English learning under POA, and their intrinsic motivation in English learning has been strengthened while at the same time extrinsic motivation shows a tendency of decline. The potential implication of this finding is that POA may be effective in stimulating students’ motivation in college English learning.

Perhitungan Teknis Perbaikan Menara Atas (Upper Mast) Rig# 77

AbtractTerhadap Struktur Upper Mast Rig #77 yang beroperasi dilapangan pengeboran pekanbaru telah dilakukan pemeriksaan NDT. Hasil pemeriksaan disajikan seperti pada table 1. Dari hasil NDT tersebut terlihat struktur telah mengalami penipisan sampai melebihi 10%. Sesuai dengan standar yang berlaku, maka struktur yang mengalami penipisan tersebut harus diganti dengan material baru yang sesuai, sebelum di operasikan kembali seperti sediakala. Dengan fakta yang seperti disebutkan diatas, maka struktur yang telah mengalami penipisan diganti dengan material baru dengan penyambungan yang sesuai. Penyambungan terhadap struktur yang mengalami penggantian sesuai dengan welding procedure specification – WPS) seperti yang tertera pada standar AWS D.1.1. tahun 2000.Selanjutnya Struktur yang telah diperbaiki harus dibuktikan laik operasi dengan melakukan perhitungan teknis (engineering calculation) terhadap struktur baru tersebut. Tulisan ini menyajikan hal-hal yang berkaitan dengan perhitungan teknis yang dimaksud, seperti metoda, prosedur serta hasil perhitungannya.Hasil perhitungan teknis dengan metoda engineering mechanic atau mechanic of materials maupun dengan metoda numerik menunjukkan kecendrungan yang sama bahwa struktur yang baru, aman dioperaikan pada safety Working Load - SWL 26,1 ton.

Effectiveness of Interactive Multimedia Based Learning Model in Engineering Mechanics

<p class="apa">Now the demand for skilled labor is urgent. Development of skilled labor has been done in various ways either through education and training. Indonesia, especially North Sumatra state nurture some vocational schools that produce graduates which are expected to be ready for working, but have not been able to meet these expectations. Therefore we face how to build a learning that is intended to establish effectively the competence of Vocational Middle School students. In this study, we propose an interactive multimedia-based learning model in teaching engineering mechanic competence. The results of empirical data showed significant evidence supports our proposition. It explores an important issue in developing the learning model of student competence in the field of engineering mechanic.</p>
