AbstractThe Cenozoic Çankırı-Çorum basin, with sedimentary facies of varying thickness and distribution, contains raw matters such as coal deposits, oil shales and evaporate. Source rock and sedimentary environment characteristics of the oil shale sequence have been evaluated. The studied oil shales have high organic matter content (from 2.97 to 15.14%) and show excellent source rock characteristics. Oil shales are represented by very high hydrogen index (532–892 mg HC/g TOC) and low oxygen index (8–44 mgCO2/g TOC) values. Pyrolysis data indicate that oil shales contain predominantly Type I and little Type II kerogen. The biomarker data reveal the presence of algal, bacterial organic matter and terrestrial organic matter with high lipid content. These findings show that organic matters in the oil shales can generate hydrocarbon, especially oil. High C26/C25, C24/C23 and low C22/C21 tricyclic terpane, C31R/C30 hopane and DBT/P ratios indicate that the studied oil shales were deposited in a lacustrine environment, and very low Pr/Ph ratio is indicative of anoxic character for the depositional environment. Tmax values from the pyrolysis analysis are in the range of 418–443 °C, and production index ranges from 0.01 to 0.08. On the gas chromatography, high Pr/nC17 and Ph/nC18 ratios and CPI values significantly exceeding 1 were determined. Very low 22S/(22S + 22R) homohopane, 20S/(20S + 20R) sterane, diasterane/sterane and Ts/(Ts + Tm) ratios were calculated from the biomarker data. Results of all these analyses indicate that Alpagut oil shales have not yet matured and have not entered the oil generation window.

A suite of source rock consists of mudstone and shale, with great thickness and continuous deposition was found in the well LK-1 in Lingshan island in Ri-Qing-Wei basin. In order to evaluate the hydrocarbon generation prospects of these source rock and find the mechanism of organic matter enrichment, shale samples were selected from the core for TOC (total organic carbon) and element geochemistry analysis. The results show that organic matter abundance of the source rocks are generally high with average TOC content of 1.26 wt%, suggesting they are good source rocks. The geochemical features show that the sedimentary environment is mostly anoxic brackish water to salt water environment with arid to semiarid climate condition. The enrichment mechanism of organic matter varied with the evolution of the basin, which was divided into three stages according to the sedimentary characteristics. In the initial-middle period of rifting evolution (stage 1 and early stage 2), paleoproductivity is the major factor of OM-enrichment reflecting by high positive correlation between the TOC contents and paleoproductivity proxies. While with the evolution of the rift basin, redox condition and terrigenous clastic input became more and more important until they became the major factor of OM enrichment in the middle stage of rift evolution (stage 2). In the later stage of rift evolution (latest stage 2 and stage 3), besides terrigenous clastic input, the effect of paleoclimate on OM-enrichment increased gradually from a minor factor to a major factor.

Cadmium is a toxic element with a half-life of several decades, which can accumulate in the human body by entering the food chain and seriously harm health. The cadmium adsorption and desorption processes in the soil directly affect the migration, transformation, bioavailability, and ecotoxicity of this element in soil-plant systems. Coastal zones are located in the transitional zone between land and sea, and large amounts of terrigenous material input have important environmental effects on this ecosystem. The pH, hydrodynamic conditions, soil organic matter (SOM), and other factors defining the sea-land interaction within the sedimentary environment are significantly different from those defining land facies. In order to study the key factors affecting cadmium adsorption in soils at the sea-land interface in the Nansha area of the Pearl River Delta, a test was conducted on a column of undisturbed soil. The results showed that the adsorption constant KF and the Cd2+ adsorption capacity of marine soils were higher than those of terrestrial soils. However, the saturation adsorption of cadmium in terrestrial sediments was higher than in marine sediments. Soil pH was an important factor affecting cadmium adsorption capacity in both terrestrial and ma-rine sediments. Neutral and alkaline topsoil conditions inhibited the vertical migration of cadmium, while the acidic environment favored it. The higher the clay and SOM were, the stronger the Cd2+ adsorption capacity of the soil was. These findings suggest that the distribution of cadmium in marine and continental sedimentary soils is not only related to adsorption, but also to the physical and chemical processes occurring in different sedimentary environments.

Abstract Several Late Viséan-Serpukhovian coral reefs were identified in Langping, Tianlin. To further understand of environment that was suitable for the development of reef-building communities and the construction of coral reefs in Langping, in this paper, part of the reef-building environmental and the ecological characteristics of coral reefs then were recovered by analyzing the development settings, palaeogeography, sedimentation of reefs, the response to hydrodynamic conditions of reef-building corals, effects of disturbance and non-reef-building organism on reef communities, and the influence of coral morphology on reef development. The sedimentary environment of Langping in Late Viséan-Serpukhovian is considered to be suitable for the development of benthic communities. The current appearance of reefs is determined by both coral populations ecological characteristics and reef-building environment.

Abstract Petroleum is an important natural resource for human. The demand for petroleum in the next several decades will continue to be high, which requires the exploitation of more petroleum sources. Chang-7 member of the Ordos basin is proven to be the richest among all members, and this research took a focus on making a comparison between the source rock quality of Chang-7 member in four major oil fields in the basin, to provide a simple view of priority oil fields for exploitation in the future. The research analyzed the source rock quality of four oil fields from the TOC, A%, rock type, R0, sedimentary environment, and kerogen type, and found a superiority of source rock quality of Maling and Zhidan oil field in multiple dimensions, mainly triggered by their sedimentary environment. The research concluded that the oil fields that was once in the central-southern region of the basin contains a slightly better source rock quality among the chosen fields, which is related to a more stable sedimentary environment in the early Triassic.
