AbstractWe study the formation of singularities for cylindrical symmetric solutions to the Gross–Pitaevskii equation describing a dipolar Bose–Einstein condensate. We prove that solutions arising from initial data with energy below the energy of the Ground State and that do not scatter collapse in finite time. The main tools to prove our result are the variational characterization of the Ground State energy, suitable localized virial identities for cylindrical symmetric functions, and general integral and pointwise estimates for operators involving powers of the Riesz transform.

AbstractIn this paper we consider generalized Hardy spaces in the octonionic setting associated to arbitrary Lipschitz domains where the unit normal field exists almost everywhere. First we discuss some basic properties and explain structural differences to the associative Clifford analysis setting. The non-associativity requires special attention in the definition of an appropriate inner product and hence in the definition of a generalized Szegö projection. Whenever we want to apply classical theorems from reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces we first need to switch to the consideration of real-valued inner products where the Riesz representation theorem holds. Then we introduce a generalization of the dual Cauchy transform for octonionic monogenic functions which represents the adjoint transform with respect to the real-valued inner product $$\langle \cdot , \cdot \rangle _0$$ ⟨ · , · ⟩ 0 together with an associated octonionic Kerzman–Stein operator and related kernel functions. Also in the octonionic setting, the Kerzman–Stein operator that we introduce turns out to be a compact operator. A motivation behind this approach is to find an approximative method to compute the Szegö projection of octonionic monogenic functions offering a possibility to tackle BVP in the octonions without the explicit knowledge of the octonionic Szegö kernel which is extremely difficult to determine in general. We also discuss the particular cases of the octonionic unit ball and the half-space. Finally, we relate our octonionic Kerzman–Stein operator to the Hilbert transform and particularly to the Hilbert–Riesz transform in the half-space case.

We investigate the well-posedness in the generalized Hartree equation [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], for low powers of nonlinearity, [Formula: see text]. We establish the local well-posedness for a class of data in weighted Sobolev spaces, following ideas of Cazenave and Naumkin, Local existence, global existence, and scattering for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation, Comm. Contemp. Math. 19(2) (2017) 1650038. This crucially relies on the boundedness of the Riesz transform in weighted Lebesgue spaces. As a consequence, we obtain a class of data that exists globally, moreover, scatters in positive time. Furthermore, in the focusing case in the [Formula: see text]-supercritical setting we obtain a subset of locally well-posed data with positive energy, which blows up in finite time.

Abstract This paper is devoted to investigating the boundedness, continuity and compactness for variation operators of singular integrals and their commutators on Morrey spaces and Besov spaces. More precisely, we establish the boundedness for the variation operators of singular integrals with rough kernels Ω ∈ Lq (S n−1) (q > 1) and their commutators on Morrey spaces as well as the compactness for the above commutators on Lebesgue spaces and Morrey spaces. In addition, we present a criterion on the boundedness and continuity for a class of variation operators of singular integrals and their commutators on Besov spaces. As applications, we obtain the boundedness and continuity for the variation operators of Hilbert transform, Hermit Riesz transform, Riesz transforms and rough singular integrals as well as their commutators on Besov spaces.

AbstractWe consider Riesz transforms of any order associated to an Ornstein–Uhlenbeck operator with covariance given by a real, symmetric and positive definite matrix, and with drift given by a real matrix whose eigenvalues have negative real parts. In this general Gaussian context, we prove that a Riesz transform is of weak type (1, 1) with respect to the invariant measure if and only if its order is at most 2.

Abstract One of the main aims of this paper is to give a large class of strongly solid compact quantum groups. We do this by using quantum Markov semigroups and noncommutative Riesz transforms. We introduce a property for quantum Markov semigroups of central multipliers on a compact quantum group which we shall call ‘approximate linearity with almost commuting intertwiners’. We show that this property is stable under free products, monoidal equivalence, free wreath products and dual quantum subgroups. Examples include in particular all the (higher-dimensional) free orthogonal easy quantum groups. We then show that a compact quantum group with a quantum Markov semigroup that is approximately linear with almost commuting intertwiners satisfies the immediately gradient- ${\mathcal {S}}_2$ condition from [10] and derive strong solidity results (following [10]). Using the noncommutative Riesz transform we also show that these quantum groups have the Akemann–Ostrand property; in particular, the same strong solidity results follow again (now following [27]).
