The availability of optimal logistics according to the minimum standards for the needs during the emergency response is crucial in the success of the disaster logistics management series. Logistics supplies with a minimum standard carried out by the Central Aceh District Government are currently not optimal and effective, so disaster logistics planning is needed. With the limitation of the research problem that humanitarian logistics supplies according to the minimum standards for the needs in the initial phase of the emergency response in the face of the landslide disaster in Central Aceh District have not been fulfilled optimally, this study aims to produce optimal and effective efforts to meet the availability of logistics with minimum requirements the right way to do logistics supplies, and how to monitor disaster logistics supplies. All of these things are focused on dealing with the landslide disaster in Central Aceh District. To obtain maximum results this research uses a system consisting of input elements, process elements, and output elements which are supported by primary data and secondary data obtained through in-depth interviews and observations. The results of this study indicate that (1) evaluating several components in the aspect of local government capacity related to logistics supply implementation, (2) Geographically, by analyzing rainfall data, the time is right for carrying out logistics supplies.

Sumatera is one if the areas that is located in the high land. Geographically, it is lied in the volcanic high land that is formed by Bukit barisan Mountain range Sumatera Barat which is rich in natural resources. But unfortunately, due ti its location, West Sumatera has also potentials to various natural disasters like earth quake, tsunami, landslide, land movement, flood and fire if compared to other areas as mentioned in National Action Plan for Disaster Risk Reduction 2012. There have been many preventive actions that have been done by the government. However, those actions are not accompanied by disaster logistics improvement. Modelling is undergone by optimizing the needs pf disaster logistics by considering the characteristics of disaster prone areas. This research is intended to predict the logistics needs by optimizing the needs of disaster victims in west sumatera. The method used is regression analysis by predicting yearly disaster logistics needs. The result of this research showed that the best mode is Y=401.81 + 0.001X1 + 14.55X6 + 37.58X9 – 10.53X14 with the prediction increase of the logistics needs for about 2.3% every year.

The Philippines’ location within the Pacific Ring of Fire brings enormous threat to its people. Intervention and innovation are to be in place for survival and growth, since nothing can be done about its geographic location and the threats that come with it. This study aims to create a framework for developing a decision support system, a mobile and web application for the efficient implementation of the disaster logistics support system. The study will utilize Agile Methodology for the software development in the proposed framework. This proposed framework exhibits the features of the system such as identifying location, affected families, supplies, reports, management of inventory, vehicle outsourcing, and monitoring. The system framework can be a helpful tool for the efficient and speedy delivery of needed help and an effective approach to disaster supply chain issues.

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to draw lessons for logistics management in humanitarian disasters, using the earthquake in Haiti as a case study. In Haiti, there were problems with the logistical response. This study investigates the humanitarian logistics challenges faced by various stakeholders in Haiti during the disaster-relief operations.Design/methodology/approachIn this exploratory case study, the central methodology used was data triangulation. Data triangulation involved interviews with respondents grouped into three categories, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the military establishment and the governmental agencies. Prominence is given to the common themes expressed by each group. These common themes are then compared to the themes of other groups to identify opportunities and problems for future disaster relief operations.FindingsThe study indicates that there is a clear gap in terms of how the humanitarian efforts were coordinated between different actors. Lack of civil–military cooperation and coordination was one of the findings from the interviews, and many of the resources and initiatives were overlapping or redundant. Timeliness and efficiency need to be at the forefront of all planning and would result in more saved lives and reduced human suffering. The key goal of humanitarian logistics stipulates is to form connections and relationships, which was well illustrated through the informants' interviews. It was found that organizing different stakeholders/actors to work together by sharing processes and distribution channels demands a vision that goes beyond logistics management. Government agencies, the military establishment, NGOs, locals and victims need to collaborate to create a synergy in generating solutions that are tailored to the shock of the disaster in the first place.Research limitations/implicationsThe current study relies on a single case study approach as disaster scenarios are unique in terms of their impact, magnitude, timing and location. Despite these limitations, this study provides a detailed account of the logistical challenges in dealing with the disaster that took place in Haiti. The logistics-related lessons learned from this case study should be carefully applied in other settings, taken into consideration contextual differences.Practical implicationsOne important aspect of measuring efficiency for any commercial logistics system is key performance indicators (KPIs) that indicate how well the firm is doing in managing its inbound and outbound operations. From a practical standpoint, the Haiti case raised a challenging concern with regard to how to measure the performance of humanitarian disaster logistics. This is a starting point to understand the dynamics of disaster system efficiency and logistics interplay and offers a few lessons to improve the resource availability in the case of future emergencies.Originality/valueThis study lays the groundwork for future researchers to explore and debrief on the topic once disaster relief draws to a close and time has allowed logisticians and relief workers to analyze the response mechanisms used in disasters.

It is possible to carry out logistics operations in a highly efficient and reliable manner with internet of things technologies. These technologies increase the added value of logistics activities and expand their benefits in the supply chain. Logistic activities are a sine qua non of disaster management. The active use of internet of things during disaster preparedness stage, during disaster, and after disaster, in warehouse and material management, fleet and transport management is an important technological milestone which will greatly increase productivity. Right place, right time, right quantity, right quality, and right price rule is known as 5 Right rule in logistics. In disaster logistics, only the price is excluded from these rules because it does not matter if human life is concerned. Strategic approaches, which are provided by IoT technology, are key to efficiently carry out 5 Right rule in disaster logistics.
