It is important and difficult for the complicated surface processing in mechanical industry. In this paper, an improved algorithm for trajectory planning is proposed in impeller surface processing by using 6-DOF cutting-robot. Taking a single finished path of the impeller blade as an example, the feedrate of the cutter, bow height error, cutter-orientation and position are planned by the B-spline interpolation algorithm, the best cutting trajectory is obtained. On the basis of trajectory planning, the optimal movement scheme of 6-DOF cutting-robot joints is obtained, the 6-DOF cutting-robot feedrate and trajectory smooth transition is achieved and the joints movement adaptive adjustment is completed. Finally, the angles, the angular velocitys of the joints and their interrelated properties are analyzed. The research works indicate that the robot joint angle curves are continuous and stable, which has met the requirements of smooth movement of the robot, and the results show that the trajectory planning is effective and practical.

To improve the efficiency and precision of five-axis numerical control machining for undevelopable ruled surfaces,a cutter-location optimization algorithm was proposed for flank milling of blades with a toroidal-end cutter. Firstly, it is established initial cutter-location of toroidal-end cutter by optimizing algorithm of three-point offset based on geometry features of toroidal-end cutter, and optimized cutter vector by introducing scaling factors. A new method which was based on dynamic sliding index calculating optimal cutter orientation vector was proposed. The method which applied deviation measurement algorithm computed overcut or undercut values of programming error in different scaling factors state. Finally, through the instance of machining verified the rationality of the method, and effectively reduces programming error.

Nickel super-alloys are widely used in aerospace as material for turbine blades. Unfortunately, their machining is difficult since mechanical hardening and, consequently, extreme tool wear occur. Casting can no longer meet the requirements for precision, hence, the castings are being ground or milled. In this contribution, a quality check of the milled surface by several surface integrity parameters is proposed with respect to the surface structural inhomogeneities caused by mutual effect of plastic deformations and thermal fields during the cutting process. Castings from Inconel 738LC were milled with cutting conditions chosen by Design-Of-Experiments method and the resulting surfaces were assessed by non-destructive X-ray diffraction methods in several areas corresponding to various cutter orientation and work-piece angle. Surface integrity was described by macroscopic residual stresses, microstrains, grain sizes and phase composition. Mostly, favourable compressive surface residual stresses were observed in the cutting direction, grain sizes were distinctively smaller when the tool axis was perpendicular to the machined surface.

In order to solve the small cutting strip width and poor surface quality problems when spiral bevel gears are CNC machined by ball-end mills£¬a machining method of face milling spiral bevel gears by using a disc cutter with a concave end is presented. Based on the researches of spiral bevel gears geometry structure, through a bigger diameter disc cutter with a concave end selected, the setting order of cutter orientation angles changed, and the functions of cutter tilt and yaw angle separated, tooth surfaces machined with big cutting strip width and no bottom land gouge can be expected. Finally, taking a spiral bevel gear pair as an example, through machining and measurement experiments, the method feasibility and correctness are verified
