It is crucial to explore a suitable landslide susceptibility model with an excellent prediction capability for rapid evaluation and disaster relief in seismic regions with different lithological features. In this study, we selected two typical seismic events, the Jiuzhaigou and Minxian earthquakes, which occurred in the Alpine karst and loess regions, respectively. Eight influencing factors and five models were chosen to calculate the susceptibility of landslide, including the information (I) model, certainty factor (CF) model, logistic regression (LR) model, I + LR coupling model, and CF + LR coupling model. Then, the accuracy and the landslide susceptibility distribution of these models were assessed by the area under curve (AUC) and distribution criteria. Finally, the model with high accuracy and good applicability for the rock landslide or loess landslide regions was optimized. Our results showed that the accuracy of the coupling model is higher than that of the single models. Except for the LR model, the landslide susceptibility distribution for the above-mentioned models is consistent with universal cognition. The coupling models are generally better than their single models. Among them, the I + LR model can obtain the best comprehensive results for assessing the distribution and accuracy of both rock and loess landslide susceptibility, which is helpful for disaster relief and policy-making, and it can also provide useful scientific data for post-seismic reconstruction and restoration.

Nanfen open-pit iron mine is the largest single open-pit mine in Asia. Because of the lag of the extension project, the section has slowly spread in the shape of “V,” and disasters such as landslides occur frequently. In this study, first, the NPR anchor cable monitoring, which shows supernormal mechanical characteristics and can realize the monitoring and early warning target for the whole landslide process and early warning curve of bedding rock “2016-1101 landslide” in the lower wall of Nanfen open-pit mine, was analyzed, revealing the failure process of the bedding rock landslide and the force evolution characteristics of the NPR anchor cable. Then, based on the Fish language in FLAC3D and 3DEC software, the mechanical model of the NPR anchor cable was constructed, and numerical simulation was performed on the whole process of “16-1101 landslide” induced by accumulation of old landslide body. The results of this study indicate that the stress monitoring curves and failure characteristics of the NPR anchor cables in the whole process of landslide by the two numerical simulation methods are basically consistent with the field measurement results, providing a theoretical and practical basis for the mechanistic analysis and numerical simulation of other similar slopes.

Abstract. The identification of deep-seated landslides is a difficult problem and its failure mechanism is a research hotspot. This paper mainly discusses a very attractive huge deep-seated ancient landslide, it is a very good case to go further research. About 15 years ago a large-scale abnormal geomorphy and geological phenomenon, containing a discontinuous stratum in output and color, was found in the new city of Fengjie, Three Gorges Project Reservoir, China. Two hypotheses for the interpretation of the abnormal phenomenon are a fault graben or a large-scale landslide. From then on continue collecting and analyzing relevant information, field investigation and test, now the results show that the fault graben, consisting of normal faults, could not have been formed under the north-south compressive structure stress of the local region. Meanwhile, a lot of unique geological features, interesting sliding trails and marks of the ancient landslide are discovered and identified in field and experiments. The deformation process and failure mechanism of the ancient landslide are clearly reappeared by a large centrifuge model experiment. Its failure mechanism can be analyzed as "creep-crack-cut". The experiment strongly confirms that it is a huge deep-seated ancient rock landslide. And the failure precursor and key factors of rock slope are discussed. At last, the stability analysis shows that the landslide as a whole is stable and the secondary landslides at the front are basically stable. The results provide a technical support for decision making of the land use planning and construction of the new city, Fengjie.
