Hand-ling ‘road rage’

Although mobility and movement has recently gained importance within interactionist studies of social action, not much is known about the consequentiality of being on the move for the particular unfolding of interactional episodes. Utilising two publicly accessible video clips of ‘road rage’ situations, we describe and analyse the centrality of hand-work in the escalation and decline of an emotionally charged interaction between members of traffic. Avoiding an a priori cognitivist stance, we show in detail how the work of hands can be constitutive of anger itself, and that it can lead to open conflict on the boundary of physical violence.

Molecular docking studies of 1,3,4 -thiadiazoles as myeloperoxidase inhibitors

Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a heterodimeric, cationic and glycosylated haeme enzyme which gets released under increased oxidative stress producing neutrophil oxidant, hypochlorous acid having the capacity to modify various biomolecules by chlorination and/or oxidation of sulfhydryl groups in proteins causing their inactivation and promoting inflammatory tissue damage. Different levels of hypochlorus acid are used as a trait marker for prescribing the disorders e.g. atherosclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, lung cancer, Immuno-reactivity. Mini library of 22500 2,5disubstituted 1,3,4 thiadiazoles were docked with Myeloperoxidase in order to identify the potent inhibitor against the enzyme. The chemical nature of the protein and ligands greatly influence the performance of docking process. Keeping this fact in view, critical evaluation of the performance was performed by GLIDE by HTVS, SP and XP. The ADME parameters by QIKPROP and protein-ligand binding free energies were calculated using the Prime/MM-GBSA module of Schrödinger.Both hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interactions contributed significantly for its ligand binding and core influence the target site through prominent hydrophobic and charged interaction with the backbone and side chain residues in the target site that improves the affinity of the molecule. The compound selected as potent inhibitor is having minimum binding affinity, maximum GScore and minimum FlexX energy. The amino acids residues ASP98, ASP94, THR100 and GLU 102 in the MPO gene domain active site form hydrogen bonds with the ligand. Compounds 3350-5150 showed better interaction with haeme enzyme for further understanding of structures, reliability and Biomolecularactivityy in connection with oxidative stress induced disorders.

A Multiplicity of Washing Rites and a Multiplicity of Experiences

If experience can be defined as the affectively charged interaction with the world by means of the body as agency or medium, various sites of such affectively charged interaction mapped on to the body may be fruitfully analysed to explain the operations of religion as discourse. Baptism is one such site. In fact, baptism as the shorthand for of collective noun denoting a spectrum of ritual practices is a particularly apposite example. Baptism as ritual practice has had a varied history, both in terms of originary context as well as interpretive or discursive trajectories. This essay primarily tracks two such significant trajectories: the one being baptismal practices as purification rites operating in socially ‘heterodox’ early Jewish and early Christian groups within an apocalyptic, dissociative framework; the other being ‘orthodox’ baptismal discourse as expressed in, for instance, Cyril of Jerusalem’s Mystagogical Catheceses. In the former, the strong affect of dissociation is coupled with visionary experiences, hence its embeddedness in apocalyptic trajectories with their strongly dismissive stance to the surrounding world. In the case of the latter, the dramatic performances of the Easter liturgy, arguably, created the experience of salvation and resurrection. In both instances, the intersection of ritual, bodily experience, religious discourse, and social imaginaire provides the explanatory framework for baptism as foundational ritual practice in the making and maintenance of religious discourse and its attendant experiential effects. In this sense, such is the argument pursued in the essay, baptism is a core facet of early Jewish and early Christian religious experience.

Experimental Studies in Electro-Machining

Three separate studies are discussed: (a) The effect of operating voltage, on electrochemical machining of tungsten carbide, was found to be very important, determining whether machining occurred or not. Best results were obtained in the 50–60 region. (6) “Discharge machining of glass” was studied in a system in which discharges between a tool and an electrolyte cause erosion of the glass. While the mechanism of erosion has not been identified, drilling rates up to 0.1 in/min. have been obtained. (c) Bubbles, formed by electrochemical machining (H2), behave as though positively charged. Interaction between the “charged” bubbles and an a-c field produce a desirable dispersion of the bubbles.
