Since the 20th century AD, Arabic has become a global language used at the United Nations in speaking, making official speeches, issuing documents, and in simultaneous translation into official languages, in addition to being an official language in the Organization of African Unity and other international organizations of the United Nations Africa remained related to Arab trade and civilization centuries before Islam, and when Islam came, the first Arab migration to the African continent was the migration to Abyssinia, and thus the Muslim Arabs found their first home after their homeland in Africa.  Islam entered Kanem Borno in the 8th century, and in Kano in the 14th century. As for the western region; the country of Yoruba, reached it in the first half of the 14th century AD according to one saying and the 15th according to another, and the 16th according to a third. As for the eastern region, whose population is mostly Igbo, it was reached by displaced merchants from the two regions: the northern and western. The masters of the Arabic language in Nigeria have made effective efforts to advance the Arabic language, as these efforts herald the splendid independence of the Arabic language in Nigerian society.

Conventional vascular intervention procedures present issues including X-ray exposure during operation, and an experience-dependent success rate and clinical outcome. This paper presents a novel robotic system using modularized bi-motional roller cartridge assemblies for robotic vascular interventions, specifically percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs). The patient-side robot manipulates instruments such as the guiding catheter, guidewire, balloon/stent catheter, and diagnostic sensor catheter via commands from the user interface device, which is controlled by the physician. The proposed roller cartridge assembly can accommodate instruments of various sizes with an active clamping mechanism, and implements simultaneous translation and rotation motions. It also implements force feedback in the physician-side system, to effectively monitor the patient-side system’s status. The positioning accuracy and precision in using the robotic system showed satisfactory performance in a phantom-based test. It was also confirmed, through animal experiments and a pilot clinical trial, that the system demonstrates feasibility for clinical use.

This is a personal reflection on the experience of organising, postponing, and then reorganising an international conference online during a pandemic. It considers the very real elements of the external chaos, suffering, and confusion which were held in mind throughout the conference planning and delivery, as we also navigated different time zones and constantly changing advice regarding Covid-19. It is about how we transformed our initial feelings of frustration, disappointment, and loss into the drive to keep as much of our original plan alive, and, in the process, how the first IAFP conference with a large group and live simultaneous translation was created online.

Deaf people have difficulty communicating due to the lack of masteryof Libras (Brazilian sign language for deaf citizens). New systemshave emerged to support the communication of people withhearing disabilities with regard to: simultaneous translation, teachingof Libras and presentation of animations. However, these systemsdo not have ready-made phrases or support for emergencysituations. Considering this scenario, this article presents the proposalof the Communication Assistant to the Deaf (AComS), whichaims to support the communication of people with hearing loss, complementing the features already presented by existing systemssuch as VLibras, HandTalk and MIDOAA. After the application ofrequirements gathering techniques such as document analysis andbenchmarking, a high-fidelity prototype of the system was proposed, which presents the various features of AComS in its mobileversion.

OBJECTIVE The objectives of this study were to apply the simultaneous translation on two rods (ST2R) maneuver involving rods contoured with a convexity at the desired thoracic kyphosis (TK) apex level and to assess the effects on the ability to support triplanar deformity corrections, including TK apex improvement, in patients with hypokyphotic adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). METHODS Using retrospective analysis, the authors examined the digital records that included 2- to 4-week, 1-year, and 2-year postoperative radiographic follow-up data of female hypokyphotic (TK < 20°) AIS patients (Lenke type 1–3) treated with ST2R. The authors assessed the corrections of triplanar deformities by examining the main Cobb angle, TK, rib hump, apical vertebral rotation, Scoliosis Research Society 22-item questionnaire scores, and TK apex translocation. In order to better grasp the potential of ST2R, the outcomes were compared with those of a historical matched case-control cohort treated with a standard rod rotation (RR) maneuver. RESULTS Data were analyzed for 25 AIS patients treated with ST2R and 27 patients treated with RR. The ST2R group had significant improvements in the main Cobb angle and TK, reduction in the rib hump size at each time point, and a final correction rate of 72%. ST2R treatment significantly increased the kyphosis apex by an average of 2.2 levels. The correction rate was higher at each time point in the ST2R group than in the RR group. ST2R engendered favorable TK corrections, although the differences were nonsignificant, at 2 years compared with the RR group (p = 0.056). The TK apex location was significantly improved in the ST2R cohort (p < 0.001). At the 1-month follow-up, hypokyphosis was resolved in 92% of the ST2R cohort compared with 30% of the RR cohort. CONCLUSIONS Resolving hypokyphotic AIS remains challenging. The ST2R technique supported significant triplanar corrections, including TK apex translocation and restoration of hypokyphosis in most patients. Comparisons with the RR cohort require caution because of differences in the implant profile. However, ST2R significantly improved the coronal and sagittal corrections. It also allowed for distribution of correctional forces over two rod implants instead of one, which should decrease the risk of screw pullout and rod flattening. It is hoped that the description here of commercially available reducers used with the authors’ surgical technique will encourage other clinicians to consider using the ST2R technique.
