Abstract It is very necessary and applicable to optimize all disciplines. In practical engineering problems the optimization has been a significant component. This article presents the hybrid approach named as differential gradient evolution plus (DGE+) algorithm which is the combination of differential evolution (DE) algorithm and gradient evolution (GE) algorithm. DE was used to diversify and GE was used for intensification with a perfect equilibrium between exploration and exploitation with an improvised distribution of dynamic probability and offers a new shake-off approach to prevent premature convergence to local optimum. To describe the success, the proposed algorithm is compared to modern meta-heuristics. To see the accuracy, robustness, and reliability of DGE+ it has been implemented on eight complex practical engineering problems named as: pressure vessel, belleville spring, tension/compression spring, three-bar truss, welded beam, speed reducer, gear train and rolling element bearing design problem, the results revealed that DGE+ algorithm can deliver highly efficient, competitive and promising results.

The earliest models for how morphogen gradients guide embryonic patterning failed to account for experimental observations of temporal refinement in gene expression domains. Following theoretical and experimental work in this area, dynamic positional information has emerged as a conceptual framework to discuss how cells process spatiotemporal inputs into downstream patterns. Here, we show that diffusion determines the mathematical means by which bistable gene expression boundaries shift over time, and therefore how cells interpret positional information conferred from morphogen concentration. First, we introduce a metric for assessing reproducibility in boundary placement or precision in systems where gene products do not diffuse, but where morphogen concentrations are permitted to change in time. We show that the dynamics of the gradient affect the sensitivity of the final pattern to variation in initial conditions, with slower gradients reducing the sensitivity. Second, we allow gene products to diffuse and consider gene expression boundaries as propagating wavefronts with velocity modulated by local morphogen concentration. We harness this perspective to approximate a PDE model as an ODE that captures the position of the boundary in time, and demonstrate the approach with a preexisting model for Hunchback patterning in fruit fly embryos. We then propose a design that employs antiparallel morphogen gradients to achieve accurate boundary placement that is robust to scaling. Throughout our work we draw attention to tradeoffs among initial conditions, boundary positioning, and the relative timescales of network and gradient evolution. We conclude by suggesting that mathematical theory should serve to clarify not just our quantitative, but also our intuitive understanding of patterning processes.

Optimization for all disciplines is very important and applicable. Optimization has played a key role in practical engineering problems. A novel hybrid meta-heuristic optimization algorithm that is based on Differential Evolution (DE), Gradient Evolution (GE) and Jumping Technique named Differential Gradient Evolution Plus (DGE+) are presented in this paper. The proposed algorithm hybridizes the above-mentioned algorithms with the help of an improvised dynamic probability distribution, additionally provides a new shake off method to avoid premature convergence towards local minima. To evaluate the efficiency, robustness, and reliability of DGE+ it has been applied on seven benchmark constraint problems, the results of comparison revealed that the proposed algorithm can provide very compact, competitive and promising performance.

AbstractRadial metallicity gradients measured today in the interstellar medium (ISM) and stellar components of disk galaxies are the result of chemo-dynamical evolution since the beginning of disk formation. This makes it difficult to infer the disk past without knowledge of the ISM metallicity gradient evolution with cosmic time. We show that abundance gradients are meaningful only if stellar age information is available. The observed gradient inversion with distance from the disk mid-plane seen in the Milky Way can be explained as the effect of inside-out disk formation and disk flaring of mono-age populations. A novel recent method is presented for constraining the evolution of the Galactic ISM metallicity with radius and time directly from the observations, while at the same time recovering the birth radii of any stellar sample with precise metallicity and age measurements.
