The article presents the scientific biography of L.M. Drobizheva (1933–2021), who headed the Moscow School of Ethnic Sociology for many years. The article reveals the stages of the formation of ethnosociology in USSR and later in Russia — from its origin in the late 1960s as a method of field ethnographic research aimed at studying the ethno-social processes of Soviet society, to the formation by the end of the second decade of the XXI century as a branch sociological discipline that studies the processes and phenomena that arise in an ethnically marked social space. The article describes the transformation of the methodological approaches of the Moscow ethno-sociological school, the outstanding contribution of L.M. Drobizheva to the formation of the scientific method of the School, and its connection with social practice.

There are more smartphones than people today and communication technologies powering these phones help us stay connected all over the world. Perhaps one of the most fundamental aspects for mobile communication is the ability to make phone calls on-the-go. We take this for granted today, but someone has built that technology for us. That someone is Marty Cooper, who invented the first handheld cellular phone - DynaTAC - back in 1973.

Women education is the first and the most important step towards attaining women empowerment. Writing and publishing textbooks for medical education is a challenging work, especially by women. This article intends to compile personal information and books published by women in different specialities so as to give recognition to such women on this International Women’s Day. Forty women were shortlisted who have either written or edited textbooks, out of which gynaecology and anatomy were the dominant specialities where contribution of the women was seen maximum. Along with textbooks, these women have many publications in indexed journals and are the recipient of famous awards in their fields. Contributions of these empowered women should be documented more often in literature so that more and more younger women get to know them.
