Abstract Ce-doped (Pb, Gd)3(Al, Ga)5O12 and Ce-doped (Bi, Gd)3(Al, Ga)5O12 single crystalline garnet films were grown using liquid-phase epitaxy method from supercooled PbO–B2O3- and Bi2O3–B2O3-based melt solutions on substrates from Gd3Ga5O12, Gd3(Al, Ga)5O12 and Y3Ga5O12 single crystals. Optical absorption, photo- and cathodoluminescent and scintillation properties of the films were studied. Ce-doped (Pb,Gd)3(Al, Ga)5O12 and Ce-doped (Bi, Gd)3(Al, Ga)5O12 garnet films can be used as a fast phosphor and scintillation screens.

The optical and luminescent properties of nanostructures of CdS / ZnS QDs and CdS QDs doped with lithium, obtained by the sol-gel technology in an aqueous solution of gelatin, have been studied. It was determined from the optical absorption spectra of the CdS / ZnS QD nanostructures that the thickness of the shell layer corresponds to the thickness of one ZnS monolayer. The luminescence spectra revealed a significant increase in the intensity of luminescence nanostructure. The absorption spectra of undoped and doped CdS NCs coincide, which indicates that there is no change in the NC size and the absence of the formation of a lithium-sulfur compound. The luminescence spectra of lithium-doped QDs demonstrate an increase in the luminescence intensity, which is associated with the passivation of surface states.

Whereas there is an increasing amount of reports on the second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) and luminescence properties of tetradentate [N2O2] Schiff base–zinc complexes, the study of zinc complexes having two bidentate [NO] Schiff-base ligands is relatively unexplored from an NLO point of view. This work puts in evidence that the known chiral bis{2-[(R)-(+)-1-phenylethyliminomethyl]phenolato-N,O}zinc(II) complex is a fascinating multifunctional molecular inorganic–organic hybrid material characterized by interesting second-order NLO and luminescent properties in solution. The emissive properties of the organic 2-(R)-(+)-1-phenylethyliminomethyl]phenol proligand are greatly enhanced upon coordination to the inorganic Zn(II) center.
