Hydatid cyst is a parasitic disease caused by Echinococcus granulosus or Echinococcus multilocularis. Humans are accidentally infected with the parasite. The cyst is usually found in the liver and lungs and rarely occurs in other body parts. The present article describes a rare case of pelvic hydatid cyst in a young man who presented with nausea, vomiting, and right abdominal pain. Two large cystic masses were discovered during a CT scan in the patient’s pelvic region, resulting in right urinary tract hydroureteronephrosis. Additionally, the antibody index was used to confirm the presence of a primary hydatid cyst.

Hydatid disease is caused by Echinococcus granulosus, which causes rare isolated presentation in the kidneys, and is estimated to be about 2-4% of all cases. We herein present a case of a 45-year-old symptomatic male patient with a large primary hydatid cyst in the left kidney that was treated successfully by laparoscopic left nephrectomy.

Hydatic cyst may occur in many organs such as the liver, lung, brain or heart with radiologic features of liver and lung involvement being well known. The musculo-skeletal site is infrequent accounting for 0.7–3% cases of all cases resulting from direct implantation of oncospheres more often than hematic dissemination. We report the case of an 18-year-old female student who visited our hospital because of a swelling in the posteroexternal aspect of the left thigh that had grown during the previous six months and had become tender in the previous month with setup of fever three days before admission. Superficial ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a cystic mass of the posterior compartment of the thigh developed within the short chief of the biceps femoris. Serology for hydatid cyst was positive. The diagnosis of an infected hydatid cyst was suspected preoperatively, and the patient was given antibiotics and anthelminthic treatment. The cyst was then completely excised and the histopathologic exam confirmed the hydatic origin. The patient was put on oral anti-helminthics and has been on regular follow up for last twelve months with no evidence of recurrence. Hydatidosis rarely occurs in the soft tissues and the diagnosis is challenging particularly when it is secondary infected. Hydatid serology provides certainty in the diagnosis of echinococcosis when it is positive. When it’s negative, imaging (Ultrasound, Computed tomography (CT) and Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)) may be an approach for making the diagnosis revealing the most characteristic features of hydatid cyst.

Hydatidosis of the psoas is an unusual entity even in countries endemic to hydatid disease. We reported a rare case of hydatid cyst of psoas in a 54 year old man without pathological history. The atypical clinical presentation and the uncharacterizable radiology have demonstrated the essential role of surgery and histological analysis in the management of this type of lesion. The patient underwent a resection of the protruding dome with drainage of the residual cavity because of the anatomical relationships of this hydatid cyst. Through this case and literature review, we aimed to discuss the diagnostic means, the natural course of the disease, the differential diagnoses as well as the therapeutic options for a hydatid cyst of the psoas.

Hydatid disease, mostly caused by Echinococcus granulosus, is a common parasitic infestation of the liver. In this type of infectious disease, humans are an intermediate host. Although most common sites are liver (70%) and lungs (25%), this parasitic tapeworm can be seen at any region of the body. Intraperitoneal cysts are usually secondary to the rupture of primary cysts, but primary hydatid cysts of the mesentery are very rare (%2). Herein, we aimed to report a giant primary hydatid cyst in a male patient, treated surgically without any complications.

We present the very rare clinical case of a 54-year-old man who was diagnosed on CT and MRI with a mixed cystic-soft tissue pancreatic lesion with septa and calcification, looking like a malignant tumor of pancreas. The preoperative diagnosis was uncertain because of unclear features of the mass. This tumor from the body and tail of pancreas was excised by means of laparotomy. The final diagnosis of a complicated hydatid cyst was confirmed on morphological examination.
