The System Paradigm and the Prospects for “Institutional Synthesis” in Economic Theory

The constant adaptation of economic theory to changing practice at certain stages requires a theoretical synthesis, during which various (sometimes competing) research programs are combined in order to develop a more adequate methodology. In orthodox economic theory the two most important syntheses were: the neoclassical synthesis of the 1940–1960s and the new neoclassical synthesis of the 1990s. Both were intradisciplinary in nature. However, the developed toolkit of neoclassical orthodoxy still does not allow the study of the “risks of the system as a whole” and making confident long-term forecasts of economic development. This current situation determines the relevance of research within the framework of the system paradigm, with the help of which such problems can be solved. This paper discusses the characteristics of the system paradigm and analyzes why this paradigm is poorly represented in neoclassical orthodoxy. The paper considers barriers to the spread of the system paradigm, associated with the worldview of modern economists-theoreticians The paper also analyses the methodological prerequisites of neoclassical orthodoxy, the specifics of which also act as a barrier to the development of the system paradigm in economic research. This paper outlines, for the first time, the general shape of the interdisciplinary institutional synthesis, the formation of which has been observed in Russia since the beginning of the 2010s. Its distinctive features are as follows. First, it develops outside economic orthodoxy, in the course of research cooperation between heterodox economists and representatives of social, humanitarian and natural disciplines – that is, it is an interdisciplinary (polydisciplinary) synthesis. Second, the main subject of research within its framework are institutions or, more broadly, meso-level structures that ensure the integrity, reproduction, and development of socio-economic systems. Third, the methodological basis of interdisciplinary cooperation within the framework of the institutional synthesis is provided by a system paradigm and holistic approach which are different from the neoclassical orthodoxy. Some examples of the institutional synthesis presented in Russian economic literature and its practical results are shown. The prospects for the further development of the theoretical interdisciplinary institutional synthesis are outlined.

Sociopolitical Approach to the Launch History of the KBO League: Application of Complex System Paradigm

The Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) League is a sports culture that Koreans love and enjoy most. However, the launch of the KBO League is related to political issues in Korea. The purpose of this study is to explain the launch history of the KBO league through a sociopolitical approach. The history of the KBO league was explained by applying a complex paradigm that explains sociocultural phenomena from a new perspective. This study used historical analysis, a qualitative study approach. Literature related to Korean professional baseball, complex system theory, sports, and politics were reviewed. This study introduces the characteristics and theory of the complex system paradigm and analyzes the history of the KBO League based on this theory. The edge of chaos, bifurcation point, positive feedback, emergence of the theory of complex system are used as elements of an overall theoretical framework to analyze the history and development of the KBO league. The study results are explained in four frameworks. First, the KBO was launched on the edge of chaos, or in the midst of social chaos provoked by Chun Doo-Hwan, who seized power through a military coup. Second, the Chun Doo-Hwan regime launched the professional baseball league to divert the public’s attention from politics to sports and provided support to construct baseball fields as venues for the national pastime. The Chun Doo-Hwan regime’s appeasement policy became a bifurcation point, which promoted the launch of the professional baseball league. Third, from the viewpoint of the complex system paradigm, the launch of the Korean baseball league was enabled by the positive feedback of the Korea professional baseball promotion committee, established in 1975 under the initiative of Korean American businessman Hong Yoon-Hee. Fourth, the Korean professional baseball league led to the emergence of the consumption culture of professional sports, and it became a national leisure and a crucial part of Korea’s sports culture. In terms of sociopolitical, the KBO League started in the dark of Korean society, but it is becoming a vitality for Korean sports culture and health.

Quantum messenger RNA (QmRNA) technology, an indispensable constituent of quantum biotech (QB), is a compelling alternative to conventional vaccine methods because of its capacity for rapid development, high efficacy, and low-cost manufacturing to combat infectious diseases. Internet of Virus Things (IoVT), a biological version of Internet of Things (IoT), comprises applications to fight against pandemics and provides effective vaccine administration. The integration of QB and IoVT constitutes the QBIoVT system to advance the prospect of QmRNA vaccine discovery within a few days. This research disseminates the QBIoVT system paradigm, including architectural aspects, priority areas, challenges, applications, and QmRNA research engine design to accelerate QmRNA vaccines discovery. A comprehensive review of the literature was accomplished, and a context-centered methodology was applied to the QBIoVT paradigm forensic investigations to impel QmRNA vaccine discovery. Based on the above rumination, the principal motive for this study was to develop a novel QBIoVT theoretical framework which has not been produced through earlier theories. The proposed framework shall inspire future QBIoVT system research activities to improve pandemics detection and protection.
