Abstract Background one of the most important age-dependent physiologic alterations in the body composition of older adult people is obesity and overweight, increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality rate. Objective The aim of the present study is to determine the prevalence of obesity in older adults in Iran. Methods The present study was conducted via meta-analysis and systematic review method, from March 2000 to October 2018. Subject-related literature was obtained via searches in ScienceDirect, Medline (PubMed), SID, Magiran, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases. Heterogeneity of studies was assessed using the I2 index, and data were analyzed by Comprehensive-Meta analysis software. Results In the assessment of 18 studies and 29,943 persons aged over 50 years, the prevalence of obesity in older adults of Iran was 21.4% (95%CI: 26.6–16.9%) based on the meta-analysis. The highest obesity prevalence was obtained in older adults of Babol (Amir Shahr) which was 44.2% (95%CI: 41.1–47.2%) in 2007, while the minimum obesity prevalence was found in older adults of Razavi Khorasan which was 11.3% (95%CI, 10–12.8%) in 2007. Further, as the sample size and the study year increased, the obesity prevalence diminished in older Iranian adults (p < 0.05). Conclusion This study suggests that the prevalence of obesity in the older adults of Iran is high. Accordingly, healthcare planners and politicians should consider effective and practical policies to reduce obesity in older adults.

Objective: To report rates of recanalization and symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage (SICH) after mechanical thromboembolectomy using Solitaire and Trevo Pro devices in acute cerebral ischemia using meta-analysis of published studies. Methods: We identified all studies that used Solitaire or Trevo devices for mechanical thromboembolectomy in treatment of acute cerebral ischemia using a search on PubMed and Cochrane libraries, stroke trials database, proceedings of neurology and neurosurgery related conferences, and supplemented by a review of bibliographies of selected publications. Recanalization was assessed using TICI >2a and rates of SICH were recorded. For the meta-analysis, forest plots and statistical analysis including event rates [ER] with 95% confidence intervals [CI] based on both fixed and random models were performed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Software. The presence of publication bias was interrogated by funnel plot of Standard Error by log odds ratio. Results: Eighteen studies with Solitaire device and five with Trevo device were identified and included in the meta-analysis. There were a total of 433/505 (85%, ER 0.85 [CI] 0.80-0.88, P<0.001) successful recanalizations with Solitaire device whereas 196/243 (80%, ER 0.80 [CI] 0.74-0.85, P<0.001) successful recanalizations were noted with Trevo device. The incidence of SICH was 45/505 (9%, ER 0.09 [CI] 0.06-0.14, P<0.001) with Solitaire device and 17/243 (6%, ER 0.06 [CI] 0.049-0129, P<0.001) with Trevo device after mechanical thrombectomy. There was no publication bias. Conclusions: Meta-analysis of studies reveals similar rates for recanalization and SICH after mechanical thromboembolectomy using Solitaire or Trevo Pro devices.

<p><strong>Background:</strong> Anaemia is one of the world’s leading cause of disability and the most serious global health issues. Globally about 38% (32 million) pregnant women are anaemic, from which 46.3% (9.2 million) are in Africa.</p><p><strong>Methods:</strong> Works of articles from PubMed, Medline and Google Scholar journal data-base were considered. Entirely articles allied to compliance and determinants of AFA supplementation were captured. The authors used modified Newcastle-Ottawa quality appraisal rule for cross-sectional works to assess the excellence of the studies for consideration and, tracked preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis guideline. The pooled effect size was calculated with the review manager and compressive meta-analysis software.</p><p><strong>Results:</strong> Eighteen studies with a total of 6649 pregnant women were included for analysis. Compliance of IFA supplementation in pregnancy in Ethiopia was 46.1%. Women who had experienced counselling on IFAS were 1.16 times, OR:1.16, (95% CI, 0.54, 2.50), knowledge on IFAS were 3.20 times, OR:3.20, (95% CI, 1.31, 7.85), knowledge of anaemia were five times OR:5.10, (95% CI, 1.87, 13.94), fourth visit for ANC were 1.58 times OR:1.58, (95% CI, 0.59, 3.42) and early registration for ANC were three times OR: 3.19, (95% CI, 0.77, 13.26) more likely to have compliance with IFAS compared to their counterpart.</p><p><strong>Conclusions</strong>: There is low compliance of IFAS in different parts of Ethiopia. Lack of counselling on IFAS, knowledge of IFAS and anaemia, no fourth visit for ANC and timing in ANC registration were factors that hinder compliance of IFAS.</p>

Aim: To analyze the association of NKX2.5 gene with congenital heart disease (CHD), and to determine if the variants rs703752, rs3729753 and rs2277923 increase the risk for developing CHD. Materials & methods: PubMed, EBSCO and Web of Science databases were screened to identify eligible studies. Through a comprehensive meta-analysis software, the association between NKX2.5 gene variants and susceptibility of CHD was calculated by pooled odd ratio (ORs) and 95% CI. Results: We observed that the allelic model of rs703752 and rs2277923 increased the risk in the overall population: OR = 1.24; 95% CI: 1.00–1.55; Z p-value = 0.049; OR = 1.18; 95% CI: 0.01–1.37; Z p-value = 0.036; respectively. Conclusion: Our results suggested that the rs703752 and rs2277923 polymorphisms of the NKX2.5 gene are associated with CHD.

Whether adjuvant chemotherapy increases survival of oesophageal cancer patients has been widely debated. The present study used meta-analysis software to combine data from six studies up to July 2007 that were found and selected as suitable, comprising a total of 1001 oesophageal cancer patients. The results indicated that adjuvant chemotherapy did not significantly improve outcome in oesophageal cancer patients. A trend towards improved outcome from adjuvant chemotherapy was found in lymph node-positive patients, but did not reach significance. In our own study including 270 oesophageal cancer patients, adjuvant chemotherapy did not improve overall patient survival, but did improve survival for patients with metastases in cervical and/or celiac lymph nodes (stage IVa). Although our study had the largest patient sample, more prospective clinical trials with large numbers of patients are necessary to confirm the value of adjuvant chemotherapy in stage IVa patients.

ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of air-assisted boom sprayers and addition of adjuvants in the spray solution on control levels of pesticide sprays against weeds and pathogenic fungi by meta-analysis of scientific literature. To perform the meta-analysis, data were collected from the results presented in scientific papers. By these data, a variable was created, denominated as relative control that was used to quantify and test whether the use of air assistance or adjuvants affects the effectiveness of pesticide sprays. This variable was calculated as a difference between percentage of pesticide control in treatments with air assistance or adjuvants and treatments without these spray techniques. Data were analyzed statistically using the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software. Results showed that the use of air assistance did not have any effect on the control levels of weeds and pathogenic fungi; whereas, the addition of adjuvants increased these levels by 6.45%.
