In situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction study of the synthesis of solid-electrolyte Li1+xAlxGe2−x(PO4)3 (LAGP) from the precursor glass reveals that an initially crystallized dopant poor phase transforms into the Al-doped LAGP at 800 °C.

In-situ observations of the polymorphic transformation in a single targeted Cu6Sn5 grain constrained between Sn-0.7 wt % Cu solder and Cu-Cu3Sn phases and the associated structural evolution during a solid-state thermal cycle were achieved via a high-voltage transmission electron microscope (HV-TEM) technique. Here, we show that the monoclinic η′-Cu6Sn5 superlattice reflections appear in the hexagonal η-Cu6Sn5 diffraction pattern upon cooling to isothermal 140 °C from 210 °C. The in-situ real space imaging shows that the η′-Cu6Sn5 contrast pattern is initiated at the grain boundary. This method demonstrates a new approach for further understanding the polymorphic transformation behavior on a real solder joint.

AbstractWe performed in-situ photoluminescence and Raman measurements on an anodized silicon surface in the HF/ethanol solution used for anodization. The porous silicon thereby produced, while resident in HF/ethanol, does not immediately exhibit intense photoluminescence. Intense photoluminescence develops spontaneously in HF/ethanol after 18–24 hours or with replacement of the HF/ethanol with water. These results support a quantum confinement mechanism in which exciton migration to traps and nonradiative recombination dominates the de-excitation pathways until silicon nanocrystals are physically separated and energetically decoupled by hydrofluoric acid etching or surface oxidation. The porous silicon surface, as produced by anodization, shows large differences in photoluminescence intensity and peak wavelength over millimeter distances. Parallel Raman measurements implicate nanometer-size silicon particles in the photoluminescence mechanism.

The chelate copper-based anticancer drug bleomycin (BLM) is usually believed to bind metal ions especially Cu(ii) to generate the “activated BLM” for DNA cleavage. This study offered a platform for simultaneous NIR-mediated temperature-responsive BLM and copper ion release, which further initiated the generation of the “activated BLM”.
