The task of precipitation nowcasting is significant in the operational weather forecast. The radar echo map extrapolation plays a vital role in this task. Recently, deep learning techniques such as Convolutional Recurrent Neural Network (ConvRNN) models have been designed to solve the task. These models, albeit performing much better than conventional optical flow based approaches, suffer from a common problem of underestimating the high echo value parts. The drawback is fatal to precipitation nowcasting, as the parts often lead to heavy rains that may cause natural disasters. In this paper, we propose a novel interaction dual attention long short-term memory (IDA-LSTM) model to address the drawback. In the method, an interaction framework is developed for the ConvRNN unit to fully exploit the short-term context information by constructing a serial of coupled convolutions on the input and hidden states. Moreover, a dual attention mechanism on channels and positions is developed to recall the forgotten information in the long term. Comprehensive experiments have been conducted on CIKM AnalytiCup 2017 data sets, and the results show the effectiveness of the IDA-LSTM in addressing the underestimation drawback. The extrapolation performance of IDA-LSTM is superior to that of the state-of-the-art methods.

1. A total loss of capacity for net glycogen synthesis was observed in experiments with the perfused liver of starved adrenalectomized rats. 2. This lesion was corrected by insulin or cortisol in vivo (over 2-5h), but not by any agent tested in perfusion. 3. The activity of glycogen synthetase a, and its increase during perfusion, in the presence of glucose plus glucogenic substrates, were proportional to the rate of net glycogen accumulation. 4. This complete inherent loss of capacity for glycogen synthesis after adrenalectomy is greater than any defect in hepatic metabolism yet reported in this situation, and is not explicable by a decrease in the rate of gluconegenesis (which supports glycogen synthesis in the liver of starved rats). The short-term (2-5h) stimulatory effect of glucocorticoids in the intact animal, on hepatic glycogen deposition, may be mediated partly through insulin action, although neither insulin or cortisol appear to act directly on the liver to stimulate glycogen synthesis.

AbstractWe study the problem of the intraday short-term volume forecasting in cryptocurrency multi-markets. The predictions are built by using transaction and order book data from different markets where the exchange takes place. Methodologically, we propose a temporal mixture ensemble, capable of adaptively exploiting, for the forecasting, different sources of data and providing a volume point estimate, as well as its uncertainty. We provide evidence of the clear outperformance of our model with respect to econometric models. Moreover our model performs slightly better than Gradient Boosting Machine while having a much clearer interpretability of the results. Finally, we show that the above results are robust also when restricting the prediction analysis to each volume quartile.

1. The fluctuations in rat hepatocyte volume and protein content in response to dietary perturbations (starvation, protein restriction, refeeding) were accompanied by corresponding fluctuations in the amount of the regulatory (R) and catalytic (C) subunits of cyclic AMP-dependent protein kinase. Thus the intracellular concentration of this key enzyme was adjusted to be near constant. 2. The adjustment of cellular R was accomplished almost exclusively by regulating cytosolic RI (R subunit of type I kinase). The preferential down-regulation of cytosolic RI in response to starvation/protein restriction indicates that particulate RI and cytosolic as well as particulate RII are more resistant to breakdown during general catabolism in the hepatocyte. 3. The diet-induced fluctuations of kinase subunits were uniformly distributed in all populations of parenchymatous hepatocytes, regardless of their size and density. It is thus possible to isolate hepatocytes with uniformly altered RI/RII ratio from livers of rats with different feeding regimens. 4. The binding of endogenous cyclic AMP to RI and RII was similar in livers with high RI/RII ratio (fed rats) and low RI/RII ratio (fasted rats) as well as in hepatocytes isolated from fasted rats. Under the conditions of the experiment (short-term stimulation by glucagon), therefore, neither the dietary state nor the RI/RII ratio seemed to affect the apparent affinity of the isoreceptors for cyclic AMP. However, RI appeared to show a slightly higher co-operativity of intracellular cyclic AMP binding than did RII in all states.

The purpose of this investigation was twofold: to determine if individuals who were assigned specific, difficult goals perform better than those assigned “do your best” goals, and to examine the importance of goal proximity (longterm vs. short-term) on bowling performance. Subjects were 72 students enrolled in two beginning bowling courses at a 4-year university. They were matched according to baseline bowling averages and then randomly assigned to one of four goal-setting conditions. A 4 × 5 (Goal Condition × Trials) ANOVA with repeated measures on the last factor revealed a significant goal condition main effect, with the long-term goal group improving more than the do-your-best group. No other performance comparisons reached significance. Questionnaire data revealed that subjects in all three numerical goal conditions rated their level of confidence significantly higher than the do-your-best goal group in Week 1, but the long-term goal group displayed a significantly higher level of confidence than the other three goal groups in Week 4. All other questions indicated that all groups tried hard and were committed to and accepted their goals.

SummaryA double-blind trial failed to demonstrate any significant short-term effects of clomipramine in doses recommended for use in general practice (in addition to the usual range of psychotherapeutic help) in the treatment of children with school refusal and neurotic disorder. Patterns of improvement were also studied for the sample as a whole irrespective of treatment. Neither age nor sex were significantly related to improvement, except on one behavioural measure where girls initially did better than boys. In addition, it was found that there was a rapid relief of depression but neurotic symptomatology tended to persist.

26 elderly ( M = 74.2 yr.) and 26 younger subjects ( M = 23.4 yr.) were compared for their ability to learn and retain a novel motor skill (limb repositioning). Both age groups demonstrated significant improvement in performance, but elders gained statistically significantly better than younger subjects. The young group, however, was significantly superior to elders in terms of performance across trials. No significant differences between the age groups were noted on motor short-term retention trials. Elderly subjects did not retain more or less than younger participants.
