In response to the frequent counterfeiting of Wuchang rice in the market, an effective method to identify brand rice is proposed. Taking the near-infrared spectroscopy data of a total of 373 grains of rice from the four origins (Wuchang, Shangzhi, Yanshou, and Fangzheng) as the observations, kernel principal component analysis(KPCA) was employed to reduce the dimensionality, and Fisher discriminant analysis(FDA) and k-nearest neighbor algorithm (KNN) were used to identify brand rice respectively. The effects of the two recognition methods are very good, and that of KNN is relatively better. Howerver the shortcomings of KNN are obvious. For instance, it has only one test dimension and its test of samples is not delicate enough. In order to further improve the recognition accuracy, fuzzy k-nearest neighbor set is defined and fuzzy probability theory is employed to get a new recognition method –Two-Parameter KNN discrimination method. Compared with KNN algorithm, this method increases the examination dimension. It not only examines the proportion of the number of samples in each pattern class in the k-nearest neighbor set, but also examines the degree of similarity between the center of each pattern class and the sample to be identified. Therefore, the recognition process is more delicate and the recognition accuracy is higher. In the identification of brand rice, the discriminant accuracy of Two-Parameter KNN algorithm is significantly higher than that of FDA and that of KNN algorithm.

In this paper, detailed comparisons are given between those estimators that can be derived from the principal component two-parameter estimator such as the ordinary least squares estimator, the principal components regression estimator, the ridge regression estimator, the Liu estimator, the r-k estimator and the r-d estimator by the prediction mean square error criterion. In addition, conditions for the superiority of the principal component two-parameter estimator over the others are obtained. Furthermore, a numerical example study is conducted to compare these estimators under the prediction mean squared error criterion.

Several years ago a three-parameter system of stellar classification has been proposed (1, 2), for the early-type stars (O-G): it was an improvement on the two-parameter system described by Barbier and Chalonge (3).

We have assembled an image processing system for use with our high resolution STEM for the particular purpose of working with low dose images of biological specimens. The system is quite flexible, however, and can be used for a wide variety of images. The original images are stored on magnetic tape at the microscope using the digitized signals from the detectors. For low dose imaging, these are “first scan” exposures using an automatic montage system. One Nova minicomputer and one tape drive are dedicated to this task. The principal component of the image analysis system is a Lexidata 3400 frame store memory. This memory is arranged in a 640 x 512 x 16 bit configuration. Images are displayed simultaneously on two high resolution monitors, one color and one black and white. Interaction with the memory is obtained using a Nova 4 (32K) computer and a trackball and switch unit provided by Lexidata. The language used is BASIC and uses a variety of assembly language Calls, some provided by Lexidata, but the majority written by students (D. Kopf and N. Townes).
