This paper presents a new framework to classify floor plan elements and represent them in a vector format. Unlike existing approaches using image-based learning frameworks as the first step to segment the image pixels, we first convert the input floor plan image into vector data and utilize a graph neural network. Our framework consists of three steps. (1) image pre-processing and vectorization of the floor plan image; (2) region adjacency graph conversion; and (3) the graph neural network on converted floor plan graphs. Our approach is able to capture different types of indoor elements including basic elements, such as walls, doors, and symbols, as well as spatial elements, such as rooms and corridors. In addition, the proposed method can also detect element shapes. Experimental results show that our framework can classify indoor elements with an F1 score of 95%, with scale and rotation invariance. Furthermore, we propose a new graph neural network model that takes the distance between nodes into account, which is a valuable feature of spatial network data.

We present here an application of Rough Set formalism to Machine Learning. The resulting Inductive Learning algorithm is described, and its application to a set of real data is examined. The data consists of a survey of voter preferences taken during the 1988 presidential election in the U.S.A. Results include an analysis of the predictive accuracy of the generated rules, and an analysis of the semantic content of the rules.

AbstractAutomated machine learning (AutoML) and artificial neural networks (ANNs) have revolutionized the field of artificial intelligence by yielding incredibly high-performing models to solve a myriad of inductive learning tasks. In spite of their successes, little guidance exists on when to use one versus the other. Furthermore, relatively few tools exist that allow the integration of both AutoML and ANNs in the same analysis to yield results combining both of their strengths. Here, we present TPOT-NN—a new extension to the tree-based AutoML software TPOT—and use it to explore the behavior of automated machine learning augmented with neural network estimators (AutoML+NN), particularly when compared to non-NN AutoML in the context of simple binary classification on a number of public benchmark datasets. Our observations suggest that TPOT-NN is an effective tool that achieves greater classification accuracy than standard tree-based AutoML on some datasets, with no loss in accuracy on others. We also provide preliminary guidelines for performing AutoML+NN analyses, and recommend possible future directions for AutoML+NN methods research, especially in the context of TPOT.
