Race has been one of the most controversial subjects studied by scholars across a wide range of disciplines as they debate whether races actually exist and whether race matters in determining life, social, and educational outcomes. Missing from the literature are investigations into various ways race gets applied in research, especially in higher education and student affairs. This review explores how scholars use race in their framing, operationalizing, and interpreting of research on college students. Through a systematic content analysis of three higher education journals over five years, this review elucidates scholars’ varied racial applications as well as potential implicit and explicit messages about race being sent by those applications and inconsistencies within articles. By better understanding how race is used in higher education and student affairs research, scholars can be more purposeful in their applications to reduce problematic messages about the essentialist nature of race and deficit framing of certain racial groups.

The focus that will be given in this article, is the relevance of collaborative teaching in the academic environment, with emphasis on higher education in engineering, considering the professional relationship between educating agents and students. To assist in the higher education process, the main challenges encountered will also be addressed, as well as to point out possible increasingly necessary solutions. Raising such important educational issues is necessary since the reference of an institution of higher education is based, among other aspects, on the qualifications of the teacher and his professional training, as well as on his ability to deal with everyday problems. Thus, seeking to achieve the proposed objectives, a bibliographic review was carried out on the theme presented and its consequences in relation to higher education, focusing on engineering courses. In addition to defining concepts related to collaborative teaching, this study links the relationships between higher education professionals, to the institution's growth and improvement. Finally, it was possible to verify that some of the problems listed in the present study are related to the way in which education professionals deal with everyday matters.

Higher education is the last phase of the academic learning process, that is, the one that comes after the secondary stage. It is provided at universities, colleges or technical training academies. The education offered by higher education is at the professional level. The objective of the study was to analyze the management of Higher Education in the country and to describe the main activities of the institutions linked to these activities. The main results indicate that three institutions are the protagonists in management. The Secretariat of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (SENESCYT), the Council for Quality Assurance in Education (CACES) and the Council of Higher Education (CES). Higher education is one of the main drivers of societal evolution. Investing in education is vital to ensure a prosperous and competitive socioeconomic system. Higher education has a high responsibility to society: they are responsible for preparing the professionals of the future.

Globalization forces Higher Education to adopt metacognition towards successful learning strategies for teacher training, students' learning and content(s) development. Researchers and practitioners use metacognition to study principles of educational system(s), learning environment(s), open content(s), and all possible processes (e.g. metacognitive, psycho-motoric, didactic, assessment etc.). Existing efforts can be divided into three categories: 1) separate strategy and tactics; 2) a holistic integration of strategy in existing successful practices, and 3) frontier research in university pedagogy. This chapter explores the third way. Within the context of the interest in metacognition and successful learning strategies in higher education, the chapter critically explores the 21st century theory and practice of the academic learning and synthesis responses to the following research questions: What is the correlation between theory and practice in Higher Education? What models are required? The conclusion is provided and future research directions are emphasized.

The purpose of this study is to show the importance of innovation in classroom management. This chapter contributes to the current debate over the role of higher education in relationship to students and teachers in digital society. Internet and related technologies have already had a significant impact on ways to organize learning and studying. The chapter focuses on the preliminary phase including a written administration of a questionnaire to sample 190 students. The results obtained by analyzing the responses of the subjects have shown that both groups of students have the same opinions regarding the importance of innovation in classroom management. In conclusion, it is necessary to improve professional practice and stimulate collective capacity building, individual and collective reflection processes in solving problematic situations in academic learning to create and maintain an environment of collaboration and interaction in digital society.

This article focuses on peer-reviewed academic journals published in English that focus exclusively on higher education. It seeks to address a number of questions: How many are they? What do they focus on? Who owns them? Where are they based? How old are they? How much do they publish? Which are the best? What does the future hold?
