Abstract Purpose: This article addresses several intervention approaches that aim to improve life for individuals with severe aphasia. Because severe aphasia significantly compromises language, often for the long term, recommended approaches focus on additional domains that affect quality of life. Treatments are discussed that involve increasing participation in personally relevant life situations, enhancing environmental support for communication and participation, and improving communicative confidence. Methods: Interventions that have been suggested in the aphasia literature as particularly appropriate for people with severe aphasia include training in total communication, training of communication partners, and activity specific training. Conclusion: Several intervention approaches can be implemented to enhance life with severe aphasia.

Children with hearing impairment are children with hearing loss who are classified into deaf and hard of hearing. The direct impact of disability is the obstruction of verbal / verbal communication, both speaking (expressive) and understanding the conversations of others (receptive). Obtaining the first language of a deaf child can be done with total communication. Total communication is the most effective communication system because in addition to using a form of communication orally or called oral, the activity of reading, writing, reading utterances, is also equipped with a form of cues. The purpose of this study was to determine the acquisition of language of children with special needs (deaf) in understanding language. Subjects in this study are children with special needs who experience speech impairment (hearing impairment) while the object of this study is focused on only one child, Mila Erdita, a 15-year-old child. This research refers to case studies with descriptive research type. Data collection techniques in this study will be done in three ways, namely; observation techniques, interview techniques, and documentation techniques. In this research, data processing that will be done is to describe the speech data of deaf children to see the acquisition of children's vocabulary. The results of this study indicate that deaf children can obtain a language of total communication using a form of communication orally or called oral, with the activities of reading, writing, reading utterances, also equipped with signs

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a distributed system that connects everything via internet. IoT infrastructure contains multiple resources and gateways. In such a system, the problem of optimizing IoT resource allocation and scheduling (IRAS) is vital, because resource allocation (RA) and scheduling deals with the mapping between recourses and gateways and is also responsible for optimally allocating resources to available gateways. In the IoT environment, a gateway may face hundreds of resources to connect. Therefore, manual resource allocation and scheduling is not possible. In this paper, the whale optimization algorithm (WOA) is used to solve the RA problem in IoT with the aim of optimal RA and reducing the total communication cost between resources and gateways. The proposed algorithm has been compared to the other existing algorithms. Results indicate the proper performance of the proposed algorithm. Based on various benchmarks, the proposed method, in terms of “total communication cost”, is better than other ones.

The purpose of this study was to investigate variables affecting visual creativity of 31 hearing-impaired children through the medium of computer graphics. These children ranged in age from 8.0 to 15.9 yr. 16 subjects attended total-communication educational programs and 15 subjects attended aural/oral classes. Each subject worked independently at a computer terminal equipped with a graphics menu developed for a subject's use. Hardcopy printouts of four images per subject were evaluated for creativity, aesthetics, and imagery. Analysis suggested that creativity among hearing-impaired children is influenced by age and communication mode used in the educational setting.

Seamless mobility management of the mesh clients (MCs) in wireless mesh network (WMN) has drawn a lot of attention from the research community. A number of mobility management schemes such as mesh network with mobility management (MEMO), mesh mobility management (M3), and wireless mesh mobility management (WMM) have been proposed. The common problem with these schemes is that they impose uniform criteria on all the MCs for sending route update message irrespective of their distinct characteristics. This paper proposes a session-to-mobility ratio (SMR) based dynamic mobility management scheme for handling both internet and intranet traffic. To reduce the total communication cost, this scheme considers each MC’s session and mobility characteristics by dynamically determining optimal threshold SMR value for each MC. A numerical analysis of the proposed scheme has been carried out. Comparison with other schemes shows that the proposed scheme outperforms MEMO,M3, and WMM with respect to total cost.

ABSTRACTThe aim of the present study is to investigate classroom communication by teachers of the deaf. A comparison will be made of the linguistic content of the communication of experienced and inexperienced teachers using total communication methods in a classroom teaching situation. The implications of the teachers' classroom communication methods for children's language development will be discussed.
