Objective: A patient communication program was implemented as a response to hospitals visiting restrictive policies during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of the program was to facilitate communication between patients and families, mainly through the use of digital tablets; thus program performance was evaluated by selecting the number of calls performed, the average call time, and the percentage of patients that used the program more than once. Methods: A communication service for hospitalized patients who did not have access to a personal electronic device or were unable to use their electronic device was launched at different MUHC hospitals. A dedicated team of re-deployed employees was available to help patients connect with their loved ones using a hospital tablet or telephone. Results: A total of 806 calls were performed between April and November 2020. Eighty one percent of the calls were performed during the non-visitors policy implementation, being video calls preferred over phone calls. The average call time was 15 min, 34% of the patients had a video call with their loved one more than once and 40% of the calls were performed in the intensive care unit. Conclusion: The patient communication program can be described as a new delivery model of compassionate care. It was effective, helped reduce patients’ isolation and met the needs of family members and caregivers during the hospital non-visitors policy directed by the Ministère de la Santé et des Services Sociaux de Québec during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract Objectives To understand users’ perceptions about receiving their personalized depression risk score and to gain an understanding about how to improve the efficiency of risk communication from the user perspective. Methods A qualitative study embedded in a randomized controlled trial (RCT) on evaluating the impact of providing personalized depression risk information on psychological harms and benefits. The participants (20 males and 20 females) were randomly selected from the intervention arm of the RCT after the 12-month assessment. The qualitative interviews were conducted through telephone, audio recorded and transcribed verbatim. We conducted a content analysis to describe the content and contextual meaning of data collected from participants. Results The first theme explained the motivation for receiving a risk score. Most participants chose to receive their personalised depression risk score with the goal of improving their self-awareness. The results revealed three sub-themes surrounding perceptions and implication of receiving their risk score: positive, negative, and neutral. Most participants found that receiving their score was positive because it improved their awareness of their mental health, but some participants could see that some people would have negative feelings when getting the score causing them to be more likely to get depression. The final theme focussed on improvements including: the best delivery methods, having resources and strategies, and targeting younger people. Conclusion The most significant motivation for, and benefit of receiving one’s personalized depression risk score was improved awareness of one’s mental health. A comprehensive risk communication program may improve the uptake and maximize the impact on behavior changes and risk reduction.

Abstract Background The recent onset of COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated many patients to be hospitalized in the COVID-19 treating centers. Owing to the need for isolation of these patients and minimizing the risk of transmission to healthy people, COVID-19-positive patients are completely restricted from meeting their friends and families. This gives rise to anxiety amongst the patients' relatives as they are not able to monitor the progress of the patients and have to depend entirely on the healthcare staff for any updates regarding the patient. In contrast, the treating doctors are undergoing severe stress due to the unknown nature of the virus and the risks involved in treating patients. They are thoroughly exhausted after the long hours donning the personal protection equipment (PPE). Objective To structure and form an interface for communication between the treating physician and the families, as a “communication team,” to decrease the workload on the treating physicians and minimize their contact time in a COVID-19 setting. Results The addition of a communication team improved the physicians' efficiency of patient management and family satisfaction. Several challenges were faced during the setting up of this interface effectively. However, most of these were dealt with along the way. The communication team was instrumental in allaying the anxiety of the family with respect to their patients' clinical condition. This also ensured engagement of doctors from non-clinical and laboratory-based departments in the COVID-19 treatment process. Conclusion Adding up a communication team for communicating clinical updates to the family in a resource-limited scenario greatly improved communication and thus family satisfaction of the COVID-19-positive patients.

Background: Aphasia is a life alerting deficit that affects up to 40% of people living with stroke. Barriers to communication ultimately impacts the care aphasic patients receive, as well as functional recovery. The Canadian Stroke Best Practice Recommendations suggest early and frequent language interventions to improve patients with aphasia quality of life, mood, and social outcomes. Methods: A supported conversation (SC) program (colloquially named The Aphasia Club) was implemented on the Acute Stroke Unit (ASU). The program included aphasia awareness and assessment training, as well as creation of an aphasia tool kit and discipline specific aphasia-friendly resources. Staff were encouraged to complete a 1-hour independent course on SC through the Aphasia Institute. Speech and language pathologists (SLP) offered an additional 30-minute in-person teaching session with interdisciplinary practice professionals. Following SLP assessment, personalized communication profiles were created for patients with aphasia to help staff understand the most useful strategies for communication. Results: More then 50 interprofessional staff members took SC training. Staff reported increased levels of knowledge and confidence when communicating with aphasic patients. Conclusions: A supported communication program was successfully implemented on an ASU. Planning appropriate communication interventions can assist interdisciplinary professionals in their ability to support patients through their stroke journey.

Abstract   While looking for one, you may find another: Tin Soldiers and the search for undiagnosed individuals with Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP) Background FOP is an ultra-rare condition where heterozygous, gain-of-function missense mutations in the ACVR1 gene result in progressive heterotopic bone formation in ligaments, tendons and muscles and result in severe disability.1 FOP has an estimated incidence of 0.6–1.3 per million individuals 2,3 suggesting that currently there are ∼8000 patients living with FOP worldwide, however only about 900 patients are currently diagnosed worldwide The diagnosis is made clinically by identification of typical malformations of the great toes as well as inflammatory swellings (flare-ups) that result in progressive and episodic ossification of soft connective tissues, often triggered by trauma.4 Muscle biopsies, though contraindicated, are frequently performed mistakenly during the course of diagnosis, as FOP is not a well-known condition. There is an urgent need to identify individuals with FOP across the globe in order to avoid harmful biopsies and to provide a pathway to care for patients with FOP. Tin Soldiers is a global FOP patient search program utilizing multimedia campaigns aimed at educating and bringing attention to FOP, to find individuals across the globe and to connect them to pathways of care. The mission is to identify every person with FOP who is currently undiagnosed, as well as to deliver education and support to those living with a diagnosis, but not connected to support networks. Once found, all people living with FOP are connected to pathways to care. The aim is to describe the Tin Soldiers global FOP patient search program approach and report early results of the program. Methods Tin Soldiers creates multimedia campaigns to create awareness and to educate medical professionals, healthcare workers, general public and local communities on FOP. At the heart of the communication program is story-telling of people living with FOP, from a feature-length documentary to public service announcements, animated short films and an 8-part Global Master Series—all designed to bring attention to FOP in order to find patients and provide a pathway to diagnosis and care. Importantly diagnosis is not the end of the journey, it’s just the beginning. Results Since official operations commenced in March 2020, Tin Soldiers has trained 535 medical professionals; established an African Clinicians Council of 10 doctors with the intention of mentoring others across the continent; increased the number of African patients with a diagnosis from 25 patients in December 2020–32 in April 2021. Connected previously diagnosed (but not connected) patients to a robust support network and held the first African FOP Family Gathering with clinicians from both South Africa and Nigeria. On the journey, patients with other conditions have been discovered including Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA), Progressive Osseus Heteroplasia (POH) and Multiple Osteochondromas (MO). These patients have been diagnosed and connected to both medical care and patient support. Another important outcome is the continued education of doctors globally with the uptake of the CME Master Series in Russia and planned rollouts in Algeria, Nigeria, Kenya, Namibia, Sweden (in partnership with the national patient organization) and Brazil (under the First Lady’s patronage). Conclusion Tin Soldiers offers an innovative model of patient identification, diagnosis, support and education at all levels of care, using the power of story-telling and multi-media marketing. Such a model could be considered for raising the profile of other musculoskeletal or rare conditions and connecting patients to a functioning pathway to care.

This paper mainly introduces an improved PLC communication program based on PLC link network communication. Read and write corresponding production data at different time periods through the shared link area, and use link location soft elements as interactive handshake signal. The main station download module and slave station upload module are designed to complete the large range of data transmission interaction between master and slave stations, and the control system is realized in the automatic production line for drum brake pad processing.

Due to the situation caused by the coronavirus COVID-19, educational institutions were forced to switch to a mode of distance interaction with students. The proposed material presents the range of digital tools successfully used by the teacher during the period of distance learning, as well as proposed for use in the traditional learning mode in the perspective of the use of blended learning technology. Among the tools, attention is paid primarily to educational platforms, portals, electronic notebooks, services for creating interactive exercises, quests, quizzes, and video sessions. Several variants of virtual whiteboards are offered for use, and attention is also drawn to the possibility and feasibility of using MOOC in school. As examples, the methodological techniques implemented in the lessons during the distance in the Zoom communication program are given. The use of digital tools in school education allows you to create, implement and distribute new methods of teaching and working with children, improve educational approaches, and further combine the possibilities of online and offline learning. The article will be relevant for practicing teachers and researchers whose interests lie in the field of digitalization of education.

<em><span>This research is motivated by the phenomenon of increasing consumption of empon-empon products by the community since the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Empon-empon is ones of jamu (traditional herbal drink) which the ingredients is consisting of ginger, turmeric and other spices. The community believes that empon-empon is able to prevent from Covid-19. This contributes to build simultaneous awareness of the community and ultimately creates a lifestyle of consuming jamu. This situation is used by jamu corporate (</span><span>Jamu Iboe) to conduct campaigns to drink jamu to increase sales of their products. This study aims to determine the campaign strategy for drinking jamu, how the community responds to the campaign, and what jamu products are most in demand. Qualitative descriptive is the method used in this research by conducting in-depth interviews. This research concludes that jamu corporates carry out their corporate communication program strategies through social media by inviting people to drink jamu and unite to prevent and fight Covid-19<s>.</s> The public response to jamu is very high, compared to before the pandemic. The most popular herbs are ginger, white turmeric, temulawak and sambiloto.</span></em>

Introduction. The article addresses the problem of primary schoolchildren’s communicative and personal development within the frameworks of an innovative university-school partnership. The purpose of the article is to evaluate the effectiveness of the program aimed at communicative and personal development of primary schoolchildren and to identify psychological and educational factors contributing to its implementation. Materials and Methods. The research follows learner-centered, semiotic, and hermeneutic approaches. In order to assess communicative development of primary schoolchildren, the following empirical methods were used: G. A. Zuckerman’s ‘Mittens’ inventory, O. G. Mishanova’s ‘Polite words’ inventory, G. A. Zuckerman’s ‘Dictation Pattern’ inventory, the ‘Brothers and Sisters’ method (modified samples of Zh. Piaget). The study involved 50 primary schoolchildren and 4 primary school teachers. To analyze the empirical data and evaluate the dynamics, the Wilcoxon T-test was used, which ensures the validity and reliability of research findings. Results. The article analyzes and summarizes the experience of currently available programs aimed at social and communicative development of primary schoolchildren. The authors have developed a program enhancing primary schoolchildren’s communicative development, theoretically justified and implemented it. The explanatory and heuristic potential of methodological principles and approaches to solving this problem has been revealed. The authors describe an educational technology called ‘a hermeneutic circle’ and illustrate it by means of a text analyzes focusing on its expediency, relevance, and communicative significance for effective cognition of the language essence and training communicative skills. The research findings indicate the effectiveness of the program called ‘Culture of speech and ethics of communication’ in the communicative and personal development of primary schoolchildren in four areas: communication as cooperation; communication as management; communication as interiorization; communication as interaction. Relying on these directions, the authors have identified and described the following parameters of the integral communicative and personal development: the level of dialogic communication, the level of communication ethics, the level of communication productivity, the level of understanding of the other participants. Conclusions. The article concludes that the implementation of ‘Culture of speech and ethics of communication’ program and creating a psychologically beneficial learning environment have led to a high level of communicative and personal development of primary schoolchildren who consider language as a cultural, ethical, and aesthetic value.
