This paper compares the potential for building energy saving of various passive and active strategies and on-site power generation through a grid-connected solar photovoltaic system (SPVS). The case study is a student welfare unit from a university campus located in the tropical climate (Aw) of Guayaquil, Ecuador. The proposed approach aims to identify the most effective energy saving strategy for building retrofit in this climate. For this purpose, we modeled the base line of the building and proposed energy saving scenarios that were evaluated independently. All building simulations were done in OpenStudio-EnergyPlus, while the on-site power generation was carried out using the Homer PRO software. Results indicated that the incorporation of daylighting controls accounted for the highest energy savings of around 20% and 14% in total building energy consumption, and cooling loads, respectively. Also, this strategy provided a reduction of about 35% and 43% in total building energy consumption, and cooling loads, respectively, when combined with triple low-e coating glazing and active measures. On the other hand, the total annual electric energy delivered by the SPVS (output power converter) was 66,590 kWh, from where 48,497 kWh was supplied to the building while the remaining electricity was injected into the grid.

Along with the continuous expansion of photovoltaic (PV) power generation, different capacity of grid connected PV system is gradually increased. China's first residential grid-connected PV system has interconnected successfully in QingDao and operated normally. This document analyzed electrical connected diagram of grid-connected PV system. Using power quality analyzer, the online power quality is monitored and analyzed. When PV power generation is low efficiency of operating state, harmonic current is over distortion limits. Monitoring data was simulated through electrical power standard source. To ensure power metering accuracy under harmonic, the watt-second method is proposed. Testing results show that smart electrical meter can meter accurately within 20 times harmonics.

The distributed power generation is an energy development way which can most manifest the multiple advantages such as the energy saving, emission reduction, safety and flexible trait. As a kind of distributed power generation technology of renewable energy, photovoltaic power generation has already transited from supplement energy to alternative energy. Although solar photovoltaic power generation industry develops very quickly in China, actual application cases of substation photovoltaic grid-connected power generation system are few. In this paper, the research of photovoltaic grid-connected power generation system is used in Zhuishan substation in Bengbu Anhui province. The system is the first set of substation photovoltaic-connected grid power generation system in Anhui province. It has being operated for three years safety and steady. The whole application of the system is advanced and groundbreaking in the domestic.
