In order to continue to make progress in software measurement, as it pertains to reliability and maintainability, there must be a shift in emphasis from design and code metrics to metrics that characterize the risk of making requirements changes. By doing so, the quality of delivered software can be improved because defects related to problems in requirements specifications will be identified early in the life cycle. An approach is described for identifying requirements change risk factors as predictors of reliability and maintainability problems. This approach can be generalized to other applications with numerical results that would vary according to application. An example is provided that consists of 24 space shuttle change requests, 19 risk factors, and the associated failures and software metrics.

In order to evaluate the performance of new turbo gas power plants for putting in commercial operation, it was necessary to supervise, test and, if so the case, to approve the works of commissioning, operational and acceptance of all equipments and systems that constitute the power plant. All this was done with the aim of guaranteeing the satisfactory operation of these elements to accomplish the function for which they were developed. These activities were conducted at the request of the customer to confirm and observe that the evidence of the tests was carried out according to the specifications and international regulations. The putting into commercial operation activities were done in collaboration with the supplier and manufacturer of equipment, the client and the institution responsible for certification and approval of the plant. All this in a logical and chronological order for the sequence of commissioning tests, operation and acceptance. Commissioning tests were carried out on-site at normal operating conditions, according to the design and operation needs of each power plant of a group of 14. Once the commissioning tests were completely executed and in a satisfactory manner, operational tests of the plants were developed. This was done by considering that they must operate reliable, stable, safe and automatically, satisfying at least, one hundred hours of continuous operation at full load. After evaluating the operational capacity of the machine, it was necessary to determinate the quality of the plant by carrying out a performance test. Finally, it was verified if every unit fulfills the technical requirements established in terms of heat capacity of the machine, noise levels and emissions. As a result of this process, it is guaranteed to the customer that the turbo gas power plants, their systems and equipments, satisfy the requirements, specifications and conditions in agreement with the supplier and manufacturers referring to the putting into commercial operation of the plant.

The basis for halal standard is the concept of shariah-compliance. The standard is an important reference document for any institution that wants to obtain halal certification. It provides requirements, specifications, guidelines and features that can be consistently used to ensure the quality of materials, products, processes or services are reasonably fit for their purpose and conform to shariah. In the Qur'an, Allah SWT had promised blessings from heaven to any community that is rule-compliant and law-abiding to His Will. By using the promises that Allah SWT had made in the Qur'an to those who obey His commandments, this conceptual study seeks to investigate the link between the concept of barakah – which is the derivative outcome of syariah compliance – with the benefits gained by organisations which adopt MS 1900 halal standard into their daily work routines.

Every business has an underlying information system. Quality and creditability of a system depend mainly on provided requirements. Good quality requirements of a system increase the degree of quality of the system. Hence, requirements determinations is of prime importance. Inadequate and misunderstood requirements are major problems in requirements determination. Major stakeholders of the requirements are non-computer professional users, who may provide imprecise, vague, and ambiguous requirements. Further, the system development process may be partly automated and based on platform such as web or Semantic Web. In this case, a proper ontology to represent requirements is needed. The chapter proposes a fuzzy RDF/XML-based ontology to document various requirements. A generic architecture of requirements management system is also provided. To demonstrate the presented approach, a case of student monitoring and learning is presented with sample software requirements specifications and interfaces to collect requirements. The chapter concludes with advantages, applications, and future enhancements.

This chapter applies the template proposed by Opdahl and Henderson-Sellers to the Goal-oriented Requirements Engineering Language (GRL). It proposes a metamodel of GRL that identifies the constructs of the language and the links between them. Each construct is then described through the template in order to extract and formalise detailed syntactic and semantic information. The latter takes the form of a mapping between a construct and its meaning, defined in terms of the Bunge-Wand-Weber ontology. Evaluations of both GRL and the template are provided as well as suggestions for improvements. The purpose of our work is to improve the quality of goal modelling. Indeed, despite the increasing popularity of the goal-oriented paradigm, especially in requirements engineering and enterprise modelling, the central notion of goal remains one of the most controversial. A possible cause might be that researchers have devoted too little attention to studying the ontological foundations of goal-oriented languages. This chapter addresses such issues for GRL.
