Using pláticas, the sharing of cultural teachings through intimate and informal conversations, this article analyzes our personal college choice processes as Chicanas by examining the impact of being raised by Chicano college-educated fathers. Drawing on two theoretical frameworks, college-conocimiento, a Latinx college choice conceptual framework, and critical raced-gendered epistemologies, we demonstrate how intimate and informal conversations occur within our own Chicana/o daughter-father relationships in negotiating higher education and household contexts. Our analysis responds to the need to explore daughter-father relationships in higher education research. This work expands the college choice scholarship by moving beyond traditional models to examine the gendered and raced experiences of families of color, particularly focusing on how father involvement is associated with the college choice of daughters.

In this paper we want to stress the role of geotourism as a means to promote environmental education and, on occasion, as a way to increase the touristic interest of an area. Geoparks are certainly the territory where geotourism can be best exploited. We propose a geoitinerary to discover the amazing, but poorly known, Middle Bussento Karst System, with the blind valley of the Bussento River, in the southeast of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Global Geopark. This is the only example, in Southern Italy, of a stream sinking underground and it is the second longest subsurface river path in Italy, making this a core area of the Geopark. We combined field surveys and literature data to create a geoitinerary that can be useful in helping to promote this site. This geoitinerary is applicable to both simple generic visitors and geo-tourists and has an educational purpose, especially in explaining the significance and the fragility of karst areas in terms of environmental protection. Moreover, it may represent a sort of stimulus for the growth of touristic activity in this inner area of the Geopark.

This paper (which is an excerpt from a book) examines the question of the revitalization of the Old City of Jerusalem as opposed to renovation or rehabilitation in connection with the question of the gentrification and Judaization of the ancient city through various measures. The author argues that demographic and geopolitical factors as well as Israeli policies have led to the deterioration of living conditions as well as living space in the Old City. An increase in population coupled with the changes effected by the border wall has meant that Palestinians have been forced to deal with increased need for living space in ways which are deemed extra-legal by Israeli authorities but which also work against preservation of the historic cultural integrity of the Old City of Jerusalem. The author argues that Palestinians should adopt strategies of ‘Forest Life’ and ‘Urban Village’, and that resistance as well as the role of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) should be utilized in what will improve Palestinian living conditions as well as preserve the cultural and historical integrity of the Old City of Jerusalem.

* * *This paper aims to introduce the intellectual role of Joel Martins, educator trained at Universidade de São Paulo (University of São Paulo), who, between 1956 and  1959, was director of Divisão de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais (Division of Educational Studies and Research), and later of Divisão de Aperfeiçoamento do Magistério (Division of Magisterium Improvement), at Centro Regional de Pesquisas Educacionais de São Paulo (Regional Center for Educational Research of São Paulo) invited by Fernando de Azevedo, who was the first director of the institution. This article analyzes research based on his trajectory and detects that this professional experience was not approached in the previous studies. When analyzing the dialogue through the letters that Joel Martins exchanged with Fernando de Azevedo after leaving the institution, it was possible to understand the reasons that caused the scholar to hide this role, considering that this position led to the invitation to work at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
