In this paper, effects of temperature and erosion-wear particle on solid particle erosion-wear behavior of alumina ceramics were studied. The erosion-wear experiments were performed using self-designed sand blasting high-temperature solid particle erosion-wear equipment in air atmosphere. The results show that alumina ceramics presented the characteristics of brittle fracture at the high temperature of 1200°C. Erosion-wear rate increased with increasing temperature and rise obviously above 1000°C. For the same kind of erosion-wear particles, the erosion-wear rate of samples increased with the larger particle size. For the different ones, the greater hardness, the more serious erosion-wear.

The erosion wear resistance of YSZ ceramics is worth studying because solid particle erosion is one of the main causes of destroying the materials and apparatuses. In this paper, 8YSZ ceramics reinforced by NiCr alloy and Al2O3 particles were pressureless sintered at an optimized sintering condition. The facture toughness reached a maximum value of 4.6 MPa•m 1/2 when the addition of NiCr alloy is 12 vol.%, which was much higher than that of the pure 8YSZ ceramic (2.0 MPa•m 1/2) fabricated in the same condition. Solid particle erosion wear behavior of NiCr-Al2O3-ZrO2 (8Y) ceramics composites was performed by self-designed sand blasting type solid particle erosion wear equipment, using 36# SiC particles as abrasive particles with the 90o erosion angle. The effect of the volume addition of NiCr alloy on the erosion wear of NiCr-Al2O3-ZrO2 (8Y) ceramic composites at room temperature was investigated. The results show that the volume erosion rate of the ceramic composites decreased as the volume addition of the NiCr alloy increasing. Crossing cracks, plastic deformation and minor chipping are the major erosion mechanisms.

Solid particle erosion-wear behavior under different working conditions was simulated by FEM. A three-dimensional finite element model of erosion-wear of solid particle was established, and Johnson-Cook material model and failure criterion were adopted to define the mechanical property of sample material. The process of spherical particle impacting 45 steel from different angles and under different impact velocity was simulated, respectively. Material deformation and strain condition were analyzed .The relationship between erosion-wear degree , impact angle and impact velocity was investigated. The results showed that, maximum plastic strain occurs on the surface of material when impacting from low angle and on subsurface while vertical impacting. The wear degree of material increases until reach the peak value at 40° and deformation volume increases with the vertical impact velocity, and there is significant accumulation of material around pit.
