Sand theft or illegal mining in river dredging areas has been a problem in recent decades. For this reason, increasing the use of artificial intelligence in dredging areas, building automated monitoring systems, and reducing human involvement can effectively deter crime and lighten the workload of security guards. In this investigation, a smart dredging construction site system was developed using automated techniques that were arranged to be suitable to various areas. The aim in the initial period of the smart dredging construction was to automate the audit work at the control point, which manages trucks in river dredging areas. Images of dump trucks entering the control point were captured using monitoring equipment in the construction area. The obtained images and the deep learning technique, YOLOv3, were used to detect the positions of the vehicle license plates. Framed images of the vehicle license plates were captured and were used as input in an image classification model, C-CNN-L3, to identify the number of characters on the license plate. Based on the classification results, the images of the vehicle license plates were transmitted to a text recognition model, R-CNN-L3, that corresponded to the characters of the license plate. Finally, the models of each stage were integrated into a real-time truck license plate recognition (TLPR) system; the single character recognition rate was 97.59%, the overall recognition rate was 93.73%, and the speed was 0.3271 s/image. The TLPR system reduces the labor force and time spent to identify the license plates, effectively reducing the probability of crime and increasing the transparency, automation, and efficiency of the frontline personnel’s work. The TLPR is the first step toward an automated operation to manage trucks at the control point. The subsequent and ongoing development of system functions can advance dredging operations toward the goal of being a smart construction site. By intending to facilitate an intelligent and highly efficient management system of dredging-related departments by providing a vehicle LPR system, this paper forms a contribution to the current body of knowledge in the sense that it presents an objective approach for the TLPR system.

As herbarium specimens are increasingly becoming digitised and accessible in online repositories, advanced computer vision techniques are being used to extract information from them. The presence of certain plant organs on herbarium sheets is useful information in various scientific contexts and automatic recognition of these organs will help mobilise such information. In our study, we use deep learning to detect plant organs on digitised herbarium specimens with Faster R-CNN. For our experiment, we manually annotated hundreds of herbarium scans with thousands of bounding boxes for six types of plant organs and used them for training and evaluating the plant organ detection model. The model worked particularly well on leaves and stems, while flowers were also present in large numbers in the sheets, but were not equally well recognised.

Digital Image Processing is application of computer algorithms to process, manipulate and interpret images. As a field it is playing an increasingly important role in many aspects of people’s daily life. Even though Image Processing has accomplished a great deal on its own, nowadays researches are being conducted in using it with Deep Learning (which is part of a broader family, Machine Learning) to achieve better performance in detecting and classifying objects in an image. Car’s License Plate Recognition is one of the hottest research topics in the domain of Image Processing (Computer Vision). It is having wide range of applications since license number is the primary and mandatory identifier of motor vehicles. When it comes to license plates in Ethiopia, they have unique features like Amharic characters, differing dimensions and plate formats. Although there is a research conducted on ELPR, it was attempted using the conventional image processing techniques but never with deep learning. In this proposed research an attempt is going to be made in tackling the problem of ELPR with deep learning and image processing. Tensorflow is going to be used in building the deep learning model and all the image processing is going to be done with OpenCV-Python. So, at the end of this research a deep learning model that recognizes Ethiopian license plates with better accuracy is going to be built.

The vehicle classification and detecting its license plate are important tasks in intelligent security and transportation systems. However, theexisting methods of vehicle classification and detection are highly complex which provides coarse-grained outcomesbecause of underfitting or overfitting of the model. Due toadvanced accomplishmentsof the Deep Learning, it was efficiently implemented to image classification and detection of objects. This proposed paper come up with a new approach which makes use of convolutional neural networks concept in Deep Learning. It consists of two steps: i) vehicle classification ii) vehicle license plate recognition. Numerous classicmodules of neural networks hadbeen implemented in training and testing the vehicle classification and detection of license plate model, such as CNN (convolutional neural networks), TensorFlow, and Tesseract-OCR. The suggestedtechnique candetermine the vehicle type, number plate and other alternative dataeffectively. This model provides security and log details regarding vehicles by using AI Surveillance. It guides the surveillance operators and assists human resources. With the help of the original dataset (training) and enriched dataset (testing), this customized model(algorithm) can achieve best outcomewith a standard accuracy of around 97.32% inclassification and detection of vehicles. By enlarging the quantity of the training dataset, the loss function and mislearning rate declines progressively. Therefore, this proposedmodelwhich uses DeepLearning hadbetterperformance and flexibility. When compared to outstandingtechniques in the strategicImage datasets, this deep learning modelscan gethigher competitor outcomes. Eventually, the proposed system suggests modern methods for advancementof the customized model and forecasts the progressivegrowth of deep learningperformance in the explorationof artificial intelligence (AI) &machine learning (ML) techniques.
