Abstract Based on the extreme value of the primary loads of ship hull girder instead of characteristic values, the more reasonable load combination factors are defined. In order to evaluate the random variation of newly defined load combination factors, based on Ferry-Berges & Castanheta (FBC) and Poisson square wave models, the still water bending moments (SWBM), vertical wave bending moments (VWBM) and their combined processes are simulated to get the random realizations of load combination factors. The statistical analysis results show that the load combination factors take the value of 1 with the highest probability and can be well fitted by the Weibull distribution. Such information should be incorporated appropriately in the reliability analysis of ship hull girder.

Statistical analysis of load spectrum is an important part on structural fatigue life and reliability research, it is generally considered that axle’s load spectrum follows Weibull distribution. This paper tested ZL50 loader’s loading history of different working conditions , and obtained the corresponding load spectrum by rain-flow counting method, then analyzed three distributions’ (normal distribution, lognormal distribution, Weibull distribution) fitting degree of load spectrum and effect on the fatigue reliability. Results show that the highest fitting degree of distribution function should be used to fit load spectrum, which can reduce the error in structural fatigue reliability prediction.

A statistical analysis of the distributions of Young's modulus Е and strain at break b of the commercial oriented fibers of polyamide-6 has been carried out in the frameworks of the models of Gauss and Weibull. The duality of the statistical distributions of Е and b revealed earlier for the strength of polyamide-6 has been confirmed. It consists in the validity of the description of the experimental data by using both the normal Gaussian distribution and the standard Weibull distribution function.
