K shell X-rays of barium and thallium following internal conversion decay in Cs137 and Hg203, respectively, were detected using a Si(Li) X-ray detector coupled to PC-based 8k multichannel analyser employing the method suggested earlier by our group. The K shell X-ray intensity ratios and vacancy transfer probabilities for thallium and barium were calculated. The obtained results are compared with theoretical, semiempirical, and others’ experimental results obtained via photoionization as well as decay processes. The effects of beta decay and internal conversion on X-ray emission probabilities are discussed.

The recent neutrino oscillation experimental results indicate that at least one neutrino has a mass greater than 50 meV. The next generation of double-beta decay experiments will very likely have a sensitivity to an effective Majorana neutrino mass below this target. Therefore this is a very exciting time for this field of research as even null results from these experiments have the potential to elucidate the nature of the neutrino.

The decay of [Formula: see text]Pr produced by activation with a clinical LINAC was investigated. The sample was counted by a HPGe detector with 40% relative efficiency. Transitions created by beta decay of [Formula: see text]Pr were observed and corresponding energies lines and relative transition strengths were measured. In addition, half-life of [Formula: see text]Pr was obtained at 3.38 ± 0.06 min. The experimental results fitted nicely to the existing energy levels scheme of [Formula: see text]Pr. Notably, all results for transition energies are more accurate than the literature values, while the half-life and transition strengths showed accuracy similar to that of the literature.

Neutron transmutation doped silicon is an important material for electronics that is based on the conversion of30Si into31P through a30Si (n,γ) →31Si reaction taking place during the neutron irradiation and followed by the beta decay of31Si into31P. The production of such silicon requires high homogeneity. The paper describes a new facility for NTD of silicon ingots of up to 5 inches in diameter and presents the experimental results that were obtained at IRT-T research nuclear reactor.

The β-decay is a useful tool to study the peculiar features present in light exotic nuclei, such as halos and cluster structures. The large Q-values and low breakup thresholds in the daughter nuclei allow channels with feeding to continuum states and delayed emission of nucleons and light ions. We report experimental results obtained using a technique where the radioactive nuclei are implanted in a finely segmented detector, and the decay channels are identified through the correlation between the implanted nuclei and subsequent decays. Decays involving cluster and halo states in 12 C , 6 He , 11 Li and 11 Be were measured.
