Two dimensional induced quantum gravity is analyzed. By the use of light-cone gauge we derive a gravitational analogue of the Wess-Zumino action and discover its amazing connection with SL (2, ℝ) current algebra. The latter permits us to find differential equations for the correlation functions.

Abstract We construct various limits of JT gravity, including Newton-Cartan and Carrollian versions of dilaton gravity in two dimensions as well as a theory on the three-dimensional light cone. In the BF formulation our boundary conditions relate boundary connection with boundary scalar, yielding as boundary action the particle action on a group manifold or some Hamiltonian reduction thereof. After recovering in our formulation the Schwarzian for JT, we show that AdS-Carroll gravity yields a twisted warped boundary action. We comment on numerous applications and generalizations.

Light-front (LF) quantization of massless fields in two spacetime dimensions is a long-standing and much debated problem. Even though the classical wave-equation is well-documented for almost two centuries, either as problems with initial values in spacetime variables or with initial data on characteristics in light-cone variables, the way to a consistent quantization in both types of frames is still a puzzle in many respects. This is in contrast to the most successful Conformal Field Theoretic (CFT) approach in terms of complex variables [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] pioneered by Belavin, Polyakov and Zamolodchikov in the ’80s. It is shown here that the 2D-massless canonical quantization in both reference frames is completely consistent provided that quantum fields are treated as Operator-Valued Distributions (OPVD) with Partition of Unity (PU) test functions. We recall first that classical fields have to be considered as distributions (e.g. generalized functions in the Russian literature). Then, a necessary condition on the PU test function follows from the required matching of the classical solutions of the massless differential equations in both types of reference frame. Next we use a mathematical formulation for OPVD, developed in the recent past. Specifically, smooth [Formula: see text] fields are introduced through the convolution operation in the distributional context. Due to the specific behavior of the Fourier-transform of the initial test function, this convolution transform has a well-defined integral in the dual space, whatever the initial choice of the reference frame. The relation to the conformal fields method follows immediately from the transition to Euclidean time and leads directly to explicit calculations of a few correlation functions of the scalar field and its energy–momentum tensor. The LF derivation of the Virasoro algebra is then obtained from the [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] expansions of the canonical fields as distributional Laplace-transform in these variables. Finally, the popular and problematic Discretized Light Cone Quantization (DLCQ) method is scrutinized with respect to its zero mode and ultraviolet content as encompassed in the continuum OPVD formulation.

The Lax-pair formulation of the two-dimensional induced gravity in the light-cone gauge is extended to the more general wN theories. After presenting the w2 and w3 gravities, we give a general prescription for an arbitrary wN case. This is further illustrated with the w4 gravity to point out some peculiarities. The constraints and the possible presence of the cosmological constants are systematically exhibited in the zero-curvature condition, which also yields the relevant Ward identities. The restrictions on the gauge parameters in the presence of the constraints are pointed out too, and are contrasted with those of the ordinary 2D gravity.

We discuss the effective (1, 0), (0, 1) and (1, 1) supergravities both in the light-cone gauge and geometrical formulations. It will be shown that the two formulations are related to each other by a certain change of the variable. In the latter formulation the effective gravities will manifest various symmetries which suggest a close relationship to the WZWN model. Indeed the effective (1, 0), (0, 1) and (1, 1) supergravities are interpreted by the corresponding super WZWN models with the SL (2, R) group.

AbstractWe characterize Doris's anti-reflectivist, collaborativist, valuational theory along two dimensions. The first dimension is socialentanglement, according to which cognition, agency, and selves are socially embedded. The second dimension isdisentanglement, the valuational element of the theory that licenses the anchoring of agency and responsibility in distinct actors. We then present an issue for the account: theproblem of bad company.

Na ß“-alumina (Na1.67Mg67Al10.33O17) is a non-stoichiometric sodium aluminate which exhibits fast ionic conduction of the Na+ ions in two dimensions. The Na+ ions can be exchanged with a variety of mono-, di-, and trivalent cations. The resulting exchanged materials also show high ionic conductivities.Considerable interest in the Na+-Nd3+-ß“-aluminas has been generated as a result of the recent observation of lasing in the pulsed and cw modes. A recent TEM investigation on a 100% exchanged Nd ß“-alumina sample found evidence for the intergrowth of two different structure types. Microdiffraction revealed an ordered phase coexisting with an apparently disordered phase, in which the cations are completely randomized in two dimensions. If an order-disorder transition is present then the cooling rates would be expected to affect the microstructures of these materials which may in turn affect the optical properties. The purpose of this work was to investigate the affect of thermal treatments upon the micro-structural and optical properties of these materials.
