In this research, we report a detailed study of the structural, electrial and magnetic properties of the ruthenium pyrochlore with the composition (Er_2-x Sr_x) Ru_2O_7 0<=x<=0.10 prepared by solid-state reaction in air at ambient pressure.  The synthesized products were characterized using powder X-ray diffraction. The structure of the samples was refined with the Rietveld method, showing that the lattice parameters are more sensitive to the Strontium and Erbium sites. Scanning electron microscopy shows that the crystal size varies between 0.27 and 0.62 mu m. In all polycrystalline samples, the electrical resistance decreases with increasing temperature, indicating that the samples are nonmetallic. The slope of the temperature-dependent resistance profiles systematically decreases with increasing x, proving that the carrier concentration increases with increasing the Sr content. Zero-field-cooled and field cooled magnetization measurements show an irreversible behavior where the split is systematically enhanced by increasing x.

Nanoparticles of bismuth ferrite (BiFeO3) were fabricated by high-pressure pulsed laser deposition method (PLD) on Pt-coated Si substrates. Effects of the ambient oxygen pressure during deposition (from 1 Torr to 15 Torr) were studied with respect to the microstructures and magnetic properties of the samples. It was found that as the pressure is higher than 5 Torr isolated nanoparticles are formed and the size of these nanoparticles decreases with the deposition pressure. All the nanoparticles exhibit ferromagnetic behavior and the magnetic coercive filed decreases with the particle size.

The structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of MnAs crystal are studied. The WIEN2k code which uses a full-potential LAPW program based on density functional theory with GGA is used for the calculations. At first, the total energy of a MnAs crystal in different lattices is calculated and the corresponding - diagram is drawn for two different structures of MnAs. The effect of pressuring this crystal is determined. The calculations confirm that, MnAs has the NiAs-type structure at ambient pressure but transforms into the zinc-blend structure of a specific pressure value. Also, the electric field gradient (EFG) and hyperfine field (HFF) at the nuclear site of Mn and As are calculated. Finally, the effect of pressure on EFG and HFF is studied.

The Relationship

The new filled skutterudite TbFe4P12 has been prepared at around 4 GPa and 1050 °C. Powder X-ray diffraction of TbT4P12 (T = Fe and Ru) has been studied with synchrotron radiation at ambient pressure. The crystal structures of both compounds were refined by Rietveld methods at ambient pressure. The positional parameters, bond lengths and bond angles have been obtained for TbT4P12 (T = Fe and Ru). The electrical and magnetic properties of TbFe4P12 have been investigated at low temperatures. The susceptibility of this phosphide follows a Curie-Weiss behavior at higher temperatures. The linear slope of the χ−1 vs. T curve from 15 to 300 K yields an effective magnetic moment of 9.48 μB. This value is close to the magnetic moment of the Tb3+ ion calculated from Hund’s rule, 9.72 μB. The ferromagnetic transition of TbFe4P12 was observed at around 10 K, and an electrical anomaly based on the magnetic ordering was detected. The relationship between the crystal structure and the physical properties of TbT4P12 (T = Fe and Ru) is discussed.

The search for functional materials in spintronic devices has become a major component of material research in recent times. The structural, elastic, mechanical, electronic and magnetic properties of half-Heusler FeCrAs alloy (HHFCA) have been examined adopting spin-polarized density functional theory calculations. Our result shows that the hexagonal structure is the high pressure phase of the FeCrAs alloy while the half-Heusler structure is the more stable phase at ambient pressure. Also, the HHFCA is mechanically stable and exhibits half-metallic ferromagnetism besides an indirect band gap in the minority spin channel. The total magnetic moment in one formula unit of the alloy is 1.00 μB, in agreement with the Slater-Pauling rule and the bulk of the magnetic moment contributed by the Cr atoms. Furthermore, high Curie temperature of ~ 1000 K has been obtained for the HHFCA which suggests that it is a promising material for spintronic applications.

First-principle calculations have been performed to study the structural, electronic and magnetic properties of BaUO3 in cubic perovskite. The lattice parameter, bulk modulus, bond length, band structures, density of states, and magnetic moments are evaluated using Full Potential Linearized Augmented Plane Wave (FP-LAPW) method in Wien2k-code with GGA as exchange and correlation functional and mBJ functional is used to improve the results along with GGA+U to review magnetic properties. It is found that our calculated structural parameters are in good agreement with experimental results and other work at ambient pressure. The density of states results for spin up and spin down channels show that BaUO3 is an half ferromagnetic material, so we may use this material to make high-performance spintronics devices.
