This article aims to present the theoretical-methodological route, built by the first author in his Master's Dissertation under the guidance of the second, based on Hans-Georg Gadamer hermeneutic-philosophical philosophy. Its relevance is justified because it is a structured alternative for conducting bibliographic research within the scope of the Person Centered Approach (PCA). For this, we initially want to justify an epistemological choice of gadamerian hermeneutics in its relation to the research objective. Then, we present the conceptual network formed by the articulation of prejudice, language, tradition, update and fusion of horizons that supports this perspective, in a ways that allows, later, to systematize the phases of information investigation, comprehensive analysis and hermeneutic synthesis to the development of research on the proposed problem. The article ends with the observation of the potentiality and proficiency related to the approximation, and consequent articulation, between PCA and the Gadamerian philosophical perspective, with reflections on the implications regarding the use of a hermeneutic-philosophical method in the production of knowledge in the approach. The article focuses on retreat as a relatively new phenomenon in the Dutch Reformed tradition. Retreat is viewed as “communicative action”. The aim of the article is firstly to explore epistemological theories in the postmodern paradigm. These theories provide a mental framework for the identification of a research model and a related methodology by means of which the relevance of monastic traditions for retreat in the Reformed tradition can be discovered. The identification of appropriate theories offers an adequate model and method for entering into a narrative inter-dialogue with retreatants. The article argues that Paul Ricoeur’s concept of the hermeneutical arc, Hans-Georg Gadamer’s notion of the fusion of horizons, and Jürgen Habermas’ emphasis on symmetrical communication supply the necessary epistemological theories for such a project. From the perspective of this epistemology, the “action of retreat” is described in terms of a social constructionist model which paves the way for the method of qualitative interviewing. The project can be described as a narrative research journey.

The meeting of worlds and the principle of sola Scriptura. Rather than function as a catalyst for unity, the Bible can be the cause of conflict among Christian believers. The Bible is also often the reason for strife, specifically in the Reformed tradition, even though Protestants uphold the creedal truism of sola Scriptura and though the authority of the Bible is seen as selfmandatory, transcending the normative power of ecclesiastical or confessional traditions. This article focuses on biblical interpretation as both a cause of disunity and a possible means to achieve greater unity. The point of departure is that biblical interpretation consists of a fusion of horizons; it is primarily about the fusion of two horizons, namely that of the Bible and that of the reader. However, both these horizons represent a great diversity of perspectives. A variety of readers interpret the Bible from diverse contexts. The Bible itself also communicates a diversity of ideas. Even the notion ‘Jesus Christ’ does not function as a unified or unifying concept. The article proposes that the idea of ‘Jesus’ cause’ (Sache Jesu) could provide continuity between the world of the reader and the world of a biblical passage.

This paper aims to describe the concept of justice in Islam interpreted by Ali Asghar Engineer by using Gadamers philosophical hermeneutics. Gadamers philosophical hermeneutics is ontological rather than methodological and it has been very influential in interpretation world. Engineers work in interpreting the concept of justice in Islam, in the notion of Gadamers philosophical hermeneutics, is affected by his horizon and fusion of horizons. His prejudices into the world lead him to bring about the idea of liberation by doing liberative interpretation. It is hoped that his liberative interpretation will influence Muslims way of thinking and gradually can challenge the structures of modern oppressions so that people will live in justice and peace. Since all Engineers efforts to interpret Quran and hadiths in liberative spirit are initiated by his question into the world, it means that he shows his ability to see what is questionable which is the real power of hermeneutical consciousness. This paper attempts to present the basic concepts of Gadamers philosophical hermeneutics then use them to analyze the interpretation on justice made by Engineer based on his liberative idea.
