Abstract The identification of multiple interacting inclusions with uniform internal stresses in an infinite elastic matrix subjected to a uniform remote loading is of fundamental importance in the mechanics and design of particulate composite materials. In anti-plane shear and plane deformations, certain sufficient conditions have been established in the literature which guarantee uniform internal stresses inside multiple interacting inclusions displaying various symmetries when the matrix is subjected to specific uniform remote loading. Correspondingly, sufficient conditions which allow for the design of multiple interacting inclusions independent of any specific form of (uniform) remote loading have also been established. In this paper, we demonstrate rigorously that, in all cases, these sufficient conditions are also necessary conditions and indeed allow for the identification of all possible collections of such inclusions.

We consider the Hermitian positive definite solution of the nonlinear matrix equation X=Q+∑i=1mAi(B+X-1)-1Ai*. Some new sufficient conditions and necessary conditions for the existence of Hermitian positive definite solutions are derived. An iterative method is proposed to compute the Hermitian positive definite solution. In the end, an example is used to illustrate the correctness and application of our results.

Abstract In this paper, firstly, we study the structural form of reflective integral for a given system. Then the sufficient conditions are obtained to ensure there exists the reflective integral with these structured form for such system. Secondly, we discuss the necessary conditions for the equivalence of such systems and a general three-dimensional differential system. And then, we apply the obtained results to the study of the behavior of their periodic solutions when such systems are periodic systems in t.

When analyzing the equilibrium behavior of M/G/1 type Markov chains by transform methods, restrictive hypotheses are often made to avoid technical problems that arise in applying results from complex analysis and linear algebra. It is shown that such restrictive assumptions are unnecessary, and an analysis of these chains using generating functions is given under only the natural hypotheses that first moments (or second moments in the null recurrent case) exist. The key to the analysis is the identification of an important subspace of the space of bounded solutions of the system of homogeneous vector-valued Wiener–Hopf equations associated with the chain. In particular, the linear equations in the boundary probabilities obtained from the transform method are shown to correspond to a spectral basis of the shift operator on this subspace. Necessary and sufficient conditions under which the chain is ergodic, null recurrent or transient are derived in terms of properties of the matrix-valued generating functions determined by transitions of the Markov chain. In the transient case, the Martin exit boundary is identified and shown to be associated with certain eigenvalues and vectors of one of these generating functions. An equilibrium analysis of the class of G/M/1 type Markov chains by similar methods is also presented.

The present investigation deals with global instability of a generaln-dimensional system of ordinary differential equations with quadratic right-hand sides. The global instability of the zero solution in a given cone is proved by Chetaev's method, assuming that the matrix of linear terms has a simple positive eigenvalue and the remaining eigenvalues have negative real parts. The sufficient conditions for global instability obtained are formulated by inequalities involving norms and eigenvalues of auxiliary matrices. In the proof, a result is used on the positivity of a general third-degree polynomial in two variables to estimate the sign of the full derivative of an appropriate function in a cone.

Abstract This study presents tests concerned with welding thermal process-induced precipitation processes taking place in 10 mm thick steel S700MC subjected to the Thermo-Mechanical Control Process (TMCP) with accelerated cooling. The thermomechanical processing of steel S700MC leads to its refinement, structural defects and solutioning with hardening constituents. Tests of thin foils performed using a transmission electron microscope revealed that the hardening of steel S700MC was primarily caused by dispersive (Ti,Nb)(C,N) precipitates (being between several and less than twenty nanometers in size). In arc welding, depending on a welding method and linear energy, an increase in the base material in the weld is accompanied by the increased concentration of hardening microagents in the weld. The longer the time when the base material remains in the liquid state, the greater the amount of microagents dissolved in the matrix. During cooling, such microagents can precipitate again or remain in the solution. An increase in welding linear energy is accompanied by an increase in the content of hardening phases dissolved in the matrix and, during cooling, by their another uncontrolled precipitation in the form of numerous fine-dispersive (Ti,Nb)(C,N) precipitates of several nm in size, leading to a dislocation density increase triggered by type 2 internal stresses.

A sequence of nonnegative integers is $k$-graphic if it is the degree sequence of a $k$-uniform hypergraph. The only known characterization of $k$-graphic sequences is due to Dewdney in 1975. As this characterization does not yield an efficient algorithm, it is a fundamental open question to determine a more practical characterization. While several necessary conditions appear in the literature, there are few conditions that imply a sequence is $k$-graphic. In light of this, we present sharp sufficient conditions for $k$-graphicality based on a sequence's length and degree sum.Kocay and Li gave a family of edge exchanges (an extension of 2-switches) that could be used to transform one realization of a 3-graphic sequence into any other realization. We extend their result to $k$-graphic sequences for all $k \geq 3$. Finally we give several applications of edge exchanges in hypergraphs, including generalizing a result of Busch et al. on packing graphic sequences.

AbstractWe construct a non-commutative analogue of the algebra of differential forms on the space of endomorphisms of a vector space, given a non-commutative algebra of functions and differential forms on the vector space. The construction yields a differential bialgebra which is a skew product of an algebra of functions and an algebra of differential forms with constant coefficients. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for such an algebra to exist, show that it is uniquely determined by the differential algebra on the vector space, and show that it is a non-commutative superpolynomial algebra in the matrix elements and their differentials (i.e. that it has the same dimensions of homogeneous components as in the classical case).
