An analytical solution is derived for dynamic response of a modified Timoshenko beam with an infinite length resting on visco-Pasternak foundation subjected to arbitrary excitations. The modified Timoshenko beam model is employed to further consider the rotary inertia caused by the shear deformation of a beam, which is usually neglected by the traditional Timoshenko beam model. By using Fourier and Laplace transforms, the governing equations of motion are transformed from partial differential forms into algebraic forms in the Laplace domain. The analytical solution is then converted into the time domain by applying inverse transforms and convolution theorem. Some widely used loading cases, including moving line loads for nondestructive testing, travelling loads for seismic wave passage, and impulsive load for impact vibration, are also discussed in this paper. The proposed generic solutions are verified by comparing their degraded results to the known solutions in other literature. Several examples are performed to further investigate the differences of the beam responses obtained from the modified and the traditional Timoshenko beam models. Results show that the modified Timoshenko beam simulates the beam responses more accurately than the traditional model, especially under the dynamic loads with a high frequency. The analytical solutions proposed in this paper can be conveniently used for design and applied as an effective tool for practitioners.

We revisit universal features of duality in linear and nonlinear relativistic scalar and Abelian 1-form theories with single or multiple fields, which exhibit ordinary or generalized global symmetries. We show that such global symmetries can be interpreted as generalized Killing isometries on a suitable, possibly graded, target space of fields or its jet space when the theory contains higher derivatives. This is realized via a generalized sigma model perspective motivated from the fact that higher spin particles can be Nambu–Goldstone bosons of spontaneously broken generalized global symmetries. We work out in detail the 2D examples of a compact scalar and the massless Heisenberg pion fireball model and the 4D examples of Maxwell, Born–Infeld, and ModMax electrodynamics. In all cases we identify the ’t Hooft anomaly that obstructs the simultaneous gauging of both global symmetries and confirm the anomaly matching under duality. These results readily generalize to higher gauge theories for p-forms. For multifield theories, we discuss the transformation of couplings under duality as two sets of Buscher rules for even or odd differential forms.

The relation between symmetries and conservation laws for solitons in a ferromagnet is complicated by the presence of gyroscopic (precessional) forces, whose description in the Lagrangian framework involves a background gauge field. This makes canonical momenta gauge-dependent and requires a careful application of Noether’s theorem. We show that Cartan’s theory of differential forms is a natural language for this task. We use it to derive conserved momenta of the Belavin–Polyakov skyrmion, whose symmetries include translation, global spin rotation, and dilation.

Abstract In this work, by employing the exterior algebra formalism, we study the matter coupling in Minimal Massive 3D Gravity (MMG) by first considering that the matter Lagrangian is connection-independent and then considering that the matter coupling is connection-dependent. The matter coupling in MMG has been previously investigated in the work \cite{arvanitakis_2} in tensorial notation where the matter Lagrangian is considered to be connection-independent. In the first part of the present paper, we revisit the connection-independent matter coupling by using the language of differential forms. We derive the MMG field equation and construct the related source 2-form. We also obtain the consistency relation within this formalism. Next, we examine the case where the matter Lagrangian is connection-dependent. In particular, we concentrate on the spinor-matter coupling and obtain the MMG field equation by explicitly constructing the source term. We also get the consistency relation that the source term should satisfy in order that spinor-matter coupled MMG equation be consistent.

AbstractWe prove the existence of Local Uniformization for rational codimension one foliations along rational rank one valuations, in any ambient dimension. This result is consequence of the Truncated Local Uniformization of integrable formal differential 1-forms, that we also state and prove in the paper. Thanks to the truncated approach, we perform a classical inductive procedure, based both in the control of the Newton Polygon and in the possibility of avoiding accumulations of values, given by the existence of suitable Tschirnhausen transformations.

Abstract We formulate general definitions of semi-classical gauge transformations for noncommutative gauge theories in general backgrounds of string theory, and give novel explicit constructions using techniques based on symplectic embeddings of almost Poisson structures. In the absence of fluxes the gauge symmetries close a Poisson gauge algebra and their action is governed by a $P_\infty$-algebra which we construct explicitly from the symplectic embedding. In curved backgrounds they close a field dependent gauge algebra governed by an $L_\infty$-algebra which is not a $P_\infty$-algebra. Our technique produces new all orders constructions which are significantly simpler compared to previous approaches, and we illustrate its applicability in several examples of interest in noncommutative field theory and gravity. We further show that our symplectic embeddings naturally define a $P_\infty$-structure on the exterior algebra of differential forms on a generic almost Poisson manifold, which generalizes earlier constructions of differential graded Poisson algebras, and suggests a new approach to defining noncommutative gauge theories beyond the gauge sector and the semi-classical limit based on $A_\infty$-algebras.

Non-invasive measurement of physiological parameters and indicators, specifically among the elderly, is of utmost importance for personal health monitoring. In this study, we focused on photoplethysmography (PPG), and developed a regression model that calculates variables from the second (SDPPG) and third (TDPPG) derivatives of the PPG pulse that can observe the inflection point of the pulse wave measured by a wearable PPG device. The PPG pulse at the earlobe was measured for 3 min in 84 elderly Korean women (age: 71.19 ± 6.97 years old). Based on the PPG-based cardiovascular function, we derived additional variables from TDPPG, in addition to the aging variable to predict the age. The Aging Index (AI) from SDPPG and Sum of TDPPG variables were calculated in the second and third differential forms of PPG. The variables that significantly correlated with age were c/a, Tac, AI of SDPPG, sum of TDPPG, and correlation coefficient ‘r’ of the model. In multiple linear regression analysis, the r value of the model was 0.308, and that using deep learning on the model was 0.839. Moreover, the possibility of improving the accuracy of the model using supervised deep learning techniques, rather than the addition of datasets, was confirmed.
