AbstractAn intricate quantum statistical effect guides us to a deterministic, non-causal quantum universe with a given fixed initial and final state density matrix. A concept is developed on how and where something like macroscopic physics can emerge. However, the concept does not allow philosophically crucial free will decisions. The quantum world and its conjugate evolve independently, and one can replace fixed final states on each side just with a common matching one. This change allows for external manipulations done in the quantum world and its conjugate, which do not otherwise alter the basic quantum dynamics. In a big bang/big crunch universe, the expanding part can be attributed to the quantum world and the contracting one to the conjugate one. The obtained bi-linear picture has several noteworthy consequences.

We present a novel solution to the nature and formation of the initial state of the Universe. It derives from the physics of a generally covariant extension of matrix theory. We focus on the dynamical state space of this background-independent quantum theory of gravity and matter — an infinite-dimensional, complex, nonlinear Grassmannian. When this space is endowed with a Fubini–Study-like metric, the associated geodesic distance between any two of its points is zero. This striking mathematical result translates into a physical description of a hot, zero-entropy Big Bang. The latter is then seen as a far-from-equilibrium, large-fluctuation-driven, metastable ordered transition — a "freezing by heating" jamming transition. Moreover, the subsequent unjamming transition could provide a mechanism for inflation while rejamming may model a Big Crunch, the final state of gravitational collapse.

We report recent measurements on τ leptons obtained by the BABAR collaboration using the entire recorded sample of electron-positron collisions at and around the Υ(4S) (about 470fb-1). The events were recorded at the PEP-II asymmetric collider at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. The measurements include high multiplicity τ decay branching fractions with 3 or 5 charged particles in the final state, a search for the second class current the τ decay τ → πη′ν, τ branching fractions into final states containing two KS mesons, [Formula: see text], with h = π, K, and preliminary measurements of hadronic spectra of τ decays with three hadrons (τ- → h-h+h-ντ decays, where h = π, K). The results improve the experimental knowledge of the τ lepton properties and can be used to improve the precision tests of the Standard Model.

We present a quasi-model-independent search for physics beyond the standard model. We define final states to be studied, and construct a rule that identifies a set of variables appropriate for any particular final state. A new algorithm ("Sleuth") searches for regions of excess in the space of those variables and quantifies the significance of any detected excess. After demonstrating the sensititvity of the method, we apply it to the semi-inclusive channel eμX collected in ≈108 pb -1 of [Formula: see text] collisions at [Formula: see text] at the DØ experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron. We find no evidence of new high pT physics in this sample.

Load frequency control (LFC) for multi-area restructured power system using discrete controlscheme has been suggested in this paper. The proposed LFC scheme utilizes synchronously measured dataof frequency and tie-line power to calculate area control error (ACE). A discrete non-integer proportionalintegral derivative controller (D-FOPID) has been used to derive frequency error to zero. Two-area thermaland four-area hydro thermal deregulated power system has been used to investigate various LFC issues. Theoptimal factors of D-FOPID have been obtained using big bang big crunch (BBBC) algorithm. The systemresults under MATLAB/Simulink validate that D-FOPID effectively work under different types of contractscenarios. D-FOPID performance has also been compared to discrete proportional integral derivativecontroller (D-PID). Further the compliance with control standards of North American electric reliabilitycouncil (NERC) has also been ensured for both the controller.
