ABSTRACTA new family of disordered materials called amorphous covalent ceramics (ACC) has been obtained by pyrolysis of metal-organic polymers. The transformation from polycarbosilane to amorphous and microcrystalline SiC has been studied. New a-SiC:H thin films have also been prepared by the polymer solution. Electrical and optical properties of this new a-SiC have studied. Amorphous binary carbide and oxycarbide have also been prepared by crosslinking polycarbosilane and metal alkoxides. The p-n control of this new a-SiC:H has been achieved, which also lead to the possible device applications.

THERMID, made of acetylene-terminated polyimide oligomers, was developed by National Starch & Chemical Co. It is capable of forming thicker deposits than conventional polyimides. It is a candidate for a broad array of electronic and optoelectronic applications, including passivation coating, alpha-particle barrier, interlayer dielectric, encapsulation of discrete devices and IC, optical waveguide, and multilayer dielectric for thin hybrids. The study and evaluation of electrical and optical properties of THERMID polyimide give more support to their application in the semiconductor industry.

The structural, electrical, and optical properties of spray deposited tin-doped indium oxide (ITO) films are reported in this work. The films have excellent properties, as a transparent and conducting electrode, for applications in a wide range of areas of optoelectronics such as photodetection and photovoltaic. One example of the ITO thin films application in semiconductor-insulating-semiconductor (SIS) efficient solar cells and modules is shown.
