TiO2nanoparticles (NPs) modified with oleyl phosphate were synthesized through stable Ti–O–P bonds and were utilized to prepare poly(methyl methacrylate)- (PMMA-) based hybrid thin films via theex situroute for investigation of their optical properties. After surface modification of TiO2NPs with oleyl phosphate, IR and13C CP/MAS NMR spectroscopy showed the presence of oleyl groups. The solid-state31P MAS NMR spectrum of the product revealed that the signal due to oleyl phosphate (OP) shifted upon reaction, indicating formation of covalent Ti–O–P bonds. The modified TiO2NPs could be homogeneously dispersed in toluene, and the median size was 16.1 nm, which is likely to be sufficient to suppress Rayleigh scattering effectively. The TEM images of TiO2/PMMA hybrid thin films also showed a homogeneous dispersion of TiO2NPs, and they exhibited excellent optical transparency even though the TiO2content was 20 vol%. The refractive indices of the OP-modified TiO2/PMMA hybrid thin films changed higher with increases in TiO2volume fraction, and the hybrid thin film with 20 vol% of TiO2showed the highest refractive index (n = 1.86).

The project includes preparation of organic dyes as powder, pure dyes as thin film, pure dyes doped with Poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) and pure dyes doped PMMA with titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2) to study the linear optical properties. Organic dyes (pure and doped) are interesting materials for linear optical properties and its applications because of their high response linearity and their extended spectral transparency. In this work, preparation organic compound dyes (Schiff bases) derived fromclosed ring were carried out as thin films of materials have been deposited on glass substrates. The samples prepared in for concentrations (10-4 and 10-5) M and thin films were deposited via drop casting.

Third order nonlinear optical properties were determined for phthalocyanine complexes 1–10 containing In , Ga and Zn central metals and tetra- or octa-substituted with benzyloxyphenoxy, phenoxy, tert-butylphenoxy and amino groups at peripheral or non-peripheral positions. The phthalocyanines were embedded in poly (methyl methacrylate) polymer in the presence of CdTe quantum dots. All complexes 1–10 were studied in the presence of CdTe quantum dots and embedded in poly (methyl methacrylate) to form thin films. Complex 3 tetrasubstituted with tert-butylphenoxy groups at non-peripheral positions was also studied in the presence of CdS , CdSe quantum dots, fullerenes, single walled carbon nanotubes. Third order nonlinear optical parameters generally increase for Pcs in the presence of CdTe quantum dots.
